just consider the risks....

I know how I feel, when I didnt eat for 6 hour
I was starting to feel light headed, and started to create a headache.
now having this in space , is a danger for your fellow astronauts and the whole project.

A hazard to the operation, perhaps, but better than going to hell.

If it is a problem for the mission then they should either make adjustments to
compensate and if none can be made then they should ensure that no one who has to
fast is sent on such missions.

Better than going to hell maybe, but you'd probably go anyway if you took everyone on the shuttle with you.

Ramon will not be the first Jew in space, others who went before him include Judy Resnik, who was killed in the Challenger disaster in 1986.
Nor is Israel's first astronaut a strict practising Jew when on the ground.
But with the eyes of a nation upon as he makes this first symbolic flight, Ramon has been keen to play tribute to his religious heritage.
"As an Israeli and a Jew I asked Nasa if it would be possible to supply kosher food for my menu in space," Ramon said.
"I was surprised and overwhelmed with the effort Nasa put in to trying to accommodate my request," he added.
Among the few personal possessions he will take with him on his 16-day voyage will be mezuzahs - small cases that are hung on door frames of Jewish homes and contain inscriptions from the Bible.
He is also taking a book of Psalms which was given to him by Israel's President Moshe Katsav - the microfiche of the Bible is the size of a credit card.

There is no distinction between the desires of Colonel Ramon to abide by his faith and complete his mission and Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor desire to do exactly the same.

This thread is blatent Islamaphobia and I suspect that few people who have posted here would actually dare repeat the comments outside the anonomity of these forums.

I could make a distinction but it has nothing to do with space travel in particular. It's much wider in scope than that.

But I'll let you guess what it is anyway.

Well - nobody ever has said that.
Cute. Allow me to restate the matter in plainer language:

There has been much consternation as of late regarding statements by some members regarding various religions; specifically Judaism. Most of us don't want to have this type of garbage floating around. Doing similar things in regard to other religions, namely Islam, spurs the proponents of that faith and political sphere to do precisely that. Accordingly, let us not give them the ammunition to do so. We are all responsible for the content of these forums, as it is not simply a case of 'you make the mess and Neal and I clean it up'. Accordingly, let's not make the mess.

Yes, I understand that you are on the great crusade to rid the world of Islam. I have no doubt that you have a portion of your manifesto in your back pocket, almost certainly scrawled on a cocktail napkin or something similar, ready to go. We have all read it before. Several times. However, this is an internet forum. Specifically, it is an internet forum devoted to submarine and naval simulations. You are very unlikely to rid us of the Islamic menace in this fashion. It is not going to work. It is ineffective. It is not possible. Motor will not start. Cannot read from drive A. Bad command or file name.

I hope that I have made this clearer for you. Let me know if there is any aspect of this that needs further elaboration.

You don't know me half as good as you state that you do in your posting, Takeda.

The issue you mentioned, islam-related threads, has declined all by itselves in the past weeks. Certain racist antisemitic rants of the not so far away past also has been adressed by justified resistance and some thread-locks by neal, or faded out.

But where "hot items" get mentioned, people have the damn right to describe them as what they are by these item's own self-description and nature. you consider it to be you obligation to prohibit all that is not polite, and you give the impression that you do not care that in this way every even criminal set of ideas could be justified not to be critizised, and could demand to be talked nice only about, because else those following this set of criminal ideas would feel offended. But you create a very serious problem there, man.

You have explained to me your reasons back then in emails and now again, and I did not buy it back then, and do not now. Note, that the issues at hand (political and Islam threads,) have considerably faded in the past weeks.

Where politeness is understood as ignoring all unwelcomed details on a given thing/issue/quality, it turns into censorship and distortion. Then it is better to forbid talking about certain things at all, than to let you have your way of nicetalking things only, becasue that necessarily leads to an extremely one-sdied, biased, manipulated way of talking only. I encouraged to ban certain themes back then, I said so twice at least, and now do it again - if Neal thinks this thread you do complain in is such a huge problem.

Subman's word-selection was as a matter of fact unprecise, since "fascism" is a relatively precise term to characterize an already existing specific political movement. He wanted to provoke, and that can be criticised, if you want, okay, no problem. Nevertheless by the way you got involved I conclude that you also would have complained if he would have talked of Islamo-totalitarianism. Unfortunately, totalitiarian demands and totalitarianism is part of Islamic history, social construction on all levels, and is clearly expressed in islamic scripture and... full stop: you are right, we have been there repeatedly. Point is, if you want to allow discussion on Islam only if all it's grim aspects are kept hidden, then you turn the whole talking into a farce. And that is where I would stop supporting you. I then would consider it preferrably to quit here, but that is not your decision, but either mine or Neal's.

Neal some weeks ago asked people to reduce political and islam-related threads here, and judging by the past couple of weeks most people, including me, followed him in that after some debate in his threat. I said that I also would not start related threads myself anymore (as a matter of fact already had widely withdrawn from starting such threads before), but would reserve the right to express my opinion where others do, and maybe views on things get expressed that I think are wrong, and critical. If you want that to be stopped by me, make neal stop such threads - And since you now attack me, please check my profile and search for threads that I have started, and how incredibly many of these threads started by me were Islam-related. You'll be surprised.

No problem to ban certain topics from this forum, Neal's place means: Neal's power. If I were him, honestely, I would do it with some themes, but he is not me, and is more hesitant to do that than I would be. But as long as a theme is allowed, I reserve the right and defend all other people's right to talk free, not necessarily politically correct about it. Subman stepped over the line by wanting to provoke when using a popular catch-phrase, as I said above, and I - read this!- pulled your leg a bit for intervening so seriously after Subman, and now the things constantly gets being blown up in size.

Tak: throttloe back on idle for some seconds, until vibrations inturbine fade out, ease the grip on the stick, and let the thing stabilize all by itself. Here was no big issue for you.

I almost refrained from posting here...

As long as he is not going to strap a bomb to himself and kill people, I really could'nt give a rat's ass what he does.

Edit: Although when I read the title it did give me some emotions simular to the feelings of fear when the Russians put Sputnik in space...
