Default Kinda makes you feel unwanted, really

Hey folks, I was just filling out form DH..something or other for my Student Visa for January. I also researched financial aid for international students, and found nothing. From Britain OR the US. Nothing from the college I'm going to either (which is fair enough, its pretty small)

If you think of all the money the US wastes, and all the money Britain wastes, dont you think it'd be nice to give students a bit of an incentive to come to American schools? They dont even let me work off campus in the first year, so they dont help by giving me money and they dont help by letting me earn it either.

I'm feeling mighty unwanted.

Welcome to the club. For very different reasons in my life, it's the same feeling over here.

But you are free not to go there! It's not that anybody holds a weapon at your head saying you have to go there. So why not leave them alone. That's like I do nowadays. Life is much better that way.

I was fairly lucky with this. My college in Ireland takes in US exchange students, and uses the fees to send Irish students to the US. So I got a year in an American university, for which average students pay $40k, for around nine hundred euros
But like you, my visa didn't allow me to work, so that was difficult.
Other European visiting students got financial aid from ther home universities, but not every college does that. Mine certainly doesn't.

Take out an incredibly large student loan and jump country, r change your surname that way they cant get any money back because offically its not you (thats how my mum done it with her £28,000 worth of debt)

Also the student loan you dont have to pay back untill your in a job earning over £15,000 a year.

In Canada, at least at my university, international students pay double tuition and double residence fees. I think part of the point is that they really do want to dissuade you from coming here and prefer to avoid the international red tape by giving precidence to domestic students.

I shudder to think what it must cost to be a typical international student in America. They must be very rich, very stupid, or love giving all their money away to interest payments.

Yes it would be but when you go to an interview here we have to by law produce any documents affliating to name change. so yes it would be in your old name but you would have a document to prove it is you.

Also you can pay £35 to the examination board to reporoduce your certificate in your new name.

Most of the international students I studied with were in the first category.

I had a student loan from years ago for $5000 dollars for going to school about 10 years ago for only 6 months....finally paid it off this year after payments of $125,deferments and the like over the years.Pay your own way...stand up and be honorable.

BTW im not saying go out and do it its just what alot of people in england do these days because they can and have the money to do so.

I have never needed to claim the social security money simply because im too proud to sign on the dole, id rather work cash in hand and get put in court than make a claim and if they do say anything then my argument is im just trying to survive like everyone else.

I'm happy to report that I'm 3/4 of the way finished entirely on my own coin without a cent from my folks

Alas, my parents are working class and they're paying for my tuition, but lets be honest now. British universities give you all these loans but you're still heaped with debt once you're done. I, on the other hand, have opted for a one off payment, complete with loving girlfriend who's father happens to be Dean of the Faculty
