Default Shortchanging? Am I doing something wrong?

So I sink this single cargo shipping crusiing along by itself. I blast it with 2 torpedoes, it goes under, no credit.

So I reload, try again, no credit.

I reload like 4 times, trying differnet strategies, even steaming towards it and blasting with e deck gun. No credit.

I just figure it's a fluke, only use a fish to sink it and go on my way. And sink 7 other ships and rack up 26k tons.

Next patrol I manage to sneak into Tokyo harbor and see a fat carrier and heavy cruiser sitting at their morings. I pump 6 into the carrier and 4 into the cruiser. No credit. Seriously, wtf? I'm using TM and the Natural Sinking Mechanics 3.3, and I observed them, but no credit.

Is there something wrong here? Thanks for any help.

I thought the same as well. I've played many patrols on SH3 and a couple on SH4 and have never seen it before. I'm wondering if there's something I'm not doing to trigger the "She's Going Down" tick because of the constraints of the NSM.

Just wondering.. have you recieved to """" Enemy Destroyed message?

I remember in the days of SH2, that you could tick an option that wouldnt tell you wether or not youd finally finished off a target. Perhaps NSM has withdrawn the message to keep you guessing?:hmm:

Yeah, I've received the message for other ships, also, they show up in my log. None of the ships I mentioned ever showed up in the capt. log.

hmm.. thats very disturbing then I'd say it were a bug but nowadays, everytime someone says a thing on their game doesnt work it's a bug (albeit this is pretty much what a bug is, usually these things can be solved through common sense)..

I must say this is a totally irrevelant and useless post too..

With Regards

Default Reinstall!!!!

What do we do with our computer when it starts acting flaky? Reboot. I would do the same to SH4 by uninstalling it. If you plan it, you can do it pretty quickly and end up right where you were:

1. Move your MODS directory to your desktop for temporary storage.
2. Uninstall SH4 taking the option of saving save games.
3. Reinstall SH4 and patch it with 1.3.
4. Install JSGME, run it once to create a new MODS directory.
5. Copy your desktop MODS directory on top of the empty one just created.
6. Reinstall your mods with JSGME.
7. Run Silent Hunter 4 and wonder where the problem went.

It's not guaranteed, but I bet that's how it works out.

I might try that this weekend. I'm always worried that something will get lost in the translation, as it were.

I think at one point with SH3, I had something like 3-4 copies of the entire directory, about 10 gigs of copied files. I kept reading conflicting posts on the forums about SH3 Commander's interaction with the save files, mods, etc.... So I err'd on the side of caution.

Thanks for the breakdown.

I seem to reacall a thread discussing sinking re-spawns. If a ship model re-spawns after being sunk already, you don't get credit for hitting it again. Did you sink a similar ship in the same area not long before and this one that won't credit might be the same ship restored to it's previous course?

I have not experienced this particular problem in SH4.

Well, I think I've figured out what happened, and one question -PV- basically answered.

Yes, the composite transport I sunk was exactly the same I had sunk in the area before, it was probably less than a day, in game, before it popped up again. So I'm assuming that it was the respawn issue he talked about.

As for the carrier and cruise not sinking. I probably replayed that scenerio a dozen times. These were my final results:

Cruiser: sunk, either by rolling over or hitting the powder mags eventually. Took between 4 and 6 direct hits

Carrier: unsinkable, I eventually put something like 10 torpedoes into her, 6 on starboard side, 4 in port side, never sunk. However, I think I know why. I think it settles on the bottom, and therefore, the decks never come awash. As it stands, the keel is only about, from what I could see, 15-20' from the bottom, and when both sides flood, it just sits on the bottom. The only explanation I can come up with. If I weren't using the NSM mod, I think the carrier would eventually blow up or just say its sunk, because of the hit points, not sure though.

I've only had one other difficult sinking, but I think that was just the mechanics/luck working against me. A large Euro transport took something like 6-7 fish and about 30 deckgun shells to finally bring her down.

Thanks to all for the help
