Default 2GB vs 4GB RAM for SH4

I'm planning on upgrading my PC from 1GB RAM to either 2GB or 4GB and wondered if any sub skippers here have tried running SH4 with both configurations - if so, what's the difference in performance like?

Is it worth spending the extra to get 4GB for SH4?

Thanks.

Just remember that if you're running 32-bit Windows (XP or Vista), then only 3 to 3.5GB of your 4GB will be recognised. Just in case you're expecting to see all 4GB. Of course, this can be overcome if you understand how to use/configure the physical address extension AND your hardware supports it.

More information (relates to Vista, but XP similar)... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605/en-us

Considering the game's footprint, you won't notice much different from 2-4. But you'll notice a huge difference from 1-2.

Not sure how great of an improvement over 2 you would see but definatly not a bad move system wise. 2G was overkill on RAM 3 years ago but it's pretty standard fare on a serious machine now. Stay ahead in the game.

My machine can support up to 8 gig of RAM.

Right now, Im running only 2 gig with a 2 gig flash stick as auxiliary RAM (a VISTA feature).

I just ran SH4 with the taskmanager on and it shows a usage of 1,6 Gb RAM.

I run SH4 with Trigger Maru in XP (32bit) with 2GB RAM and no virtual memory set. I have never run out of memory yet.

In Vista, you will run out of memory if you have no swap file playing SH4 with 2GB RAM. Even more funny....I tested same computer with 64-bit Vista with 4GB RAM available to Vista, if you disable your swap file, you will still run out of memory.

Vista is the most RAM hungry OS to date
