How to...????
HI...
As you can see I am new on this forum and in this game, I never played Silent Hunter before or any familiar game to this one so the stupid questions that I'm going to ask will probably be emberasing to me but I can't help it ![]() i finished school in Silent Hunter 4 and started career, they took me to some Philipino island and told me to observe some route until one Japanese island, all of you know that is beginig of the career in 1941... My questions are: Ploted course says that ETA is 227 hours!?!?! OK it is a great distance, but is there anyway to speed up real time or what? When will I intercept enemy ships or will ever (how often do you intercept them)? Is it beter to stay on the periscope depth (so not to get noticed, maybe there is better chances that theya will show up if they cann't see me) or go on surface? Why cann't I turn on RADAR while surfaced? I have tons of other stupid questions but they come to my mind right now, I'm really sorry but if you could help me a little bit I would appriciate it, I know that for some of you will be really pis*** off on me, but all i can tell you is that I'm a begginer as you were some time ago, so if you could please help me... thnx

First of all, welcome to the Forum. Yes you can compress time by using the + and - keys on the number pad. This will allow you to get to your destination much faster. Your other questions really depend on your realism settings within the game. If you are going to spend a lot of time submerged, then you need to set your speed to about 2 knots in order to conserve battery power and increase the length of time that you can remain submerged.
Personally, I spend most of my time on the surface, and I dive when I come into contact with an enemy unit. |

this will probaly sound like sound grapes to some of you, but is there any way to reload torpedos and amunition for deck gun? probably some ports and which one? I'm asking you this one 'cos I tried to enter one port on some small island and there were some hostile ships in front of it port probably guarding it, but cos' I hadn't any torpedos or amunition I just moved away. My port were I started mission is a bit far away...

Allied supply ports are shown by a blue anchor symbol. The blue & white
striped anchors are submarine tenders where you can refuel & rearm. I would strongy advise a beginning player of SH4 to use the single missions & single patrols before starting a campaign. This way he/she can learn all the answers to the above questions. Experience is the best teacher.... JIM

Thank you @FAdmiral, i think i'll start those quick missions to learn a bit more... but before I start there is one more thing I cann't figure it out... After I reloaded my torpedoes and amunition and my homeport, next time I dived to periscope depth my sub flooded, there were several messages about torpedo tubes destroyed, diesel and electric engines destroyed etc... I tried playing on surfaced every time I reloded the game but same thing happens over and over again... I just cann't dive if my sub doesn't get destroyed by herself and I really don't know the reason, i even tryed diving inside my port but the some thing happened... so if you could only help me with this one!? Is this some kind of bug or what?

A bug, I would have to say yes & no. It seems if you ever take any kind of shell
or DC damage, your crew can repair most of the inside stuff but NOT the outside hull. There is a % (less than 100) of how much the hull is damaged. The lower the %, the less deep you can dive. The ONLY way to get it fixed is to end the patrol at the base you are assigned too. There is a damage analyzer someone made that lets you know after a save just what the damage is. Look at this thread: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=114405 JIM
