Default Is there a workaround for this Mod conflict

Hi All,

Does anybody know if there is a workaround to using the 'Clearwater' Mod and the GWX 16KM Atmosphere Mod together?

Everytime I try I get this message

Cheers

Have you tried enabling it anyway and see if it has an adverse effect :hmm: Sometimes with such warnings the game will still run fine

That's probably because you didn't roll back SH3 Commander before enabling the 16 km mod.

You might be on a no winner here.

The clear water mod, does this use the 8km or 16km scene.dat?

This is important as the scene.dat controls the visability distance. Either way one mod will cancel out the other.

If this mod only increases the water clarity, I would suggest using SH3 Commander to change the underwater fog.

SH Commander rolled back prior to any mod install, and I am also 'In Port'.

I have not yet 'played' around with SH Commander, I use it for the Skin Pack Mod primarily.

Do I need to change the 'Water Clarity' option? If so any recommended setting?

IIRC Stock Water settings are the equivalent to 18 in the SH3Cmdr settings. Meaning 20 is the clearest & 0 the murkiest.

Cheers danlisa,

Set to 20 in SHC. Its probably the best compromise now as i love the 16km mod.

I have a question regarding the 16km Mod.

The distance (line of sight) to the horizon at sea level is approximately 3.5km.

At periscope depth, taking 6 metres above sea level as an example, the horizon distance is 8.7km approx.

Does the 16km mod take away some of the realism in sighting beyond this range?

The 16km mod effectively doubles your visual 'bubble'/rendered area. This will double your visual range & the enemies visual range.

As to whether using the 16km mod is more or less realistic, hmm, Can of Worms.

After many many debates here on SS the 16km was deemed to be a better trade off than the 8km version. Infact, GWX recommends the use of the 16km Mod. It certainly reduces what people have called 'GWX's Uber AI' where the escorts/DD's can sometimes visually spot your U-Boat before you spot them.

Personally, I think it's spot on due to better optics/higher viewpoint on the escorts part, so I play with the 8km default but all I can say is, try the 16km mod and if it doesn't 'float your boat' regarding the visual properties of your boats sensors, go back to the original.

Thanks for the 16km insight.

I have been switching between the 2 mods. I am still learning alot in this fantastic sim, however, I always strive for realism. I understand the 'Pros and Cons' dilema and if the GWX guys say 'use it' then who am I to argue...lol.
