OMG... We've hit the Jackpot!
New career.
Base: Asiatic fleet Sub : Porpoise class Starting date : December 9 1941 Mission: Drop off some land rats on the other side of the Philippines. (could have walked over, that be faster). ![]() I plotted my course north round the Island to make the drop and my sonar man starts to stutter. I get in grid: 17.50nN by 119.25E a task force with 2 Kongo class battleships and few heavy cruisers escorted by a lot of DD's. For some reason I missed the task force completely ![]() ![]() This time I get in grid 18.0N by 119.2E multiple contacts... and I mean a lot! ![]() After setting an intercept course I find: 2 Maya class heavy cruisers, 1 Mogami class heavy cruiser, 4 Asahio class destroyers, 3 Fubuki class destroyers and a S***load of troop transport (think about 8 or 10) making it a total of 20 vessels. ![]() As I couldn't find the first task force anymore but considering they both were on a SE course toward Borneo approximately 1 grid apart my guess is it's the Borneo invasion force I just encountered. Best part of it is, I saved this time. ![]() Now I'm wondering what to do here.... Should I go for the heavy cruiser... only have 4 bow torpedoes and two aft or should I go for the troop transport taking two or three out. What did the Capt. (Historically) do in a situation like that. I'd go for the troop transports and effectively weaken the enemy's land operation and maybe save Borneo.. but my guess is the game doesn't take note of that. That would be something BTW... see the effect you have on the outcome of the war like in a situation like this. |

In real life, I would think that you would have to go for multiple troop carriers. That could have a major impact on the strength of the invasion force.

Where's the unlimited Torpedo button when you need it!!
Got a price on my second lottery ticket too... After sinking a Mogami I Followed the first task force to the Lingayen Gulf and got even more contacts. 3 Mogami, 9 destroyers, 9 troop transports. (Japs must have gotten the Mogami on sale, 4 for the price of 2) Crippled 1 Mogami (due to dud's), Sunk another & sunk 1 Maya heavy cruiser. No Kongo to be found ![]() Totaled at about 34.800T ![]() Left with 2 aft torpedoes to finish my mission though ![]() _PS: :hmm: I wonder what's going to happen when I go for a refit at home base when they find out I didn't finish my objective yet. |

If that means you sink a division worth of troops, and forgo the cruisers, but that allows them to hold out one month more . . . that's one more month for them to hold the line. Oh, if only MacArthur had the foresight not to change War Plan Orange, and keep all the provisions on the Peninsula . . . and if only the Allies were able to take the Southern Approuch from Darwin to Davao . . .
