Default Recommended Baseball game.

Would anyone like to recommend a baseball game for the 2007 season, or should I hold of for 2008 at this point?
I have a Wii and a GameCube . . . but if it's a MUST get game, I would be willing to buy a new console.
Any recommendations?

I would see if you could get a copy of MVP Baseball 2005. Best baseball game ever. It might be on Gamecube. It is definitely on PS2, which are pretty cheap now.

I have MVP Baseball 2004 . . . and was looking to upgrade . . . what new features would I find in 2005, in comparison to 2004?

I have a couple of friends who have the latest MLB 'the show' for PS3 and they say it is the best Baseball game they have ever played. This is coming from two longtime sportsgame fanatics so I tend to believe them

I am told that this game is more "street" and player oriented as compared to the more Realistic MLB 2K7 series. What would your friends say?

The only baseball games I can recommend are Baseball Simulator 1000 and, well, Baseball. Both were on the old NES and are still quite fun. I know it's not what you're looking for, but I couldn't resist. I have been thinking about a "new" baseball game for the PS2, so I'm also interested in this thread.

It is just a lot more polished. The slider settings allow you to adjust the game to your play style.

They replied alot, so here is the highlights:

Quote:
As far as I know there are three baseball games out there right now:

MLB 2k7 - Arcadey (can be Sim-like with the correct sliders)
The Bigs - MLB Street
MLB 2007: The Show - Very sim-like

Out of the three, I'd say "The Show" is the most realistically playing baseball game. Not perfect, but I've heard stories of people with their entire team having 15 home-runs each after a couple weeks in the season. Now that's a little off.
and

Quote:
I have "The Show", I feel its fairly realistic. Like most games that allow player creation, the realism has to be in the mindset of the player. When creating a player, the individual has to keep "realism" in mind. Playing with the skill set to Rookie, My player's attributes are realisitc. My first minor league contract I finished with a BA in the low 300's but only like 8 HRs. I was mostly a contact hitter.

In my second year, playing for the Mets AAA team, I will work on my power and stamina. Last your spent 60 days on the DL for a bum knee
and

Quote:
As far as realism being in the mindset of the player, well not necessarily. There's no way you can create your player and be an all star right from the get go. They make you grind it out in AA/AAA for a while until you get hot, or an injury on the major league team grants you playing time. You build your stats and can basically become a great all around player over the course of your career, but I wouldn't say the stats ever feel bloated.

The lower difficulty settings help you out a lot. You can guess pitches when batting (fast ball, slider, etc) and it will let you know by blinking red whether you got it right or not, but on ROOKIE it will actually show you the exact location of the ball if you guess it right. On veteran guess pitch only yields a red flash, but you can now guess a portion of the strike zone (high, low-away, low, inside, outside, etc) and it will show you exactly where in that zone the ball will be. I'm assuming higher difficulties will NOT show you exactly where the ball goes and just flash red.

It can get easy, but that's why there are more difficulty levels.
So basically it is what they recommend as the most realistic.

Well . . . right now The Bigs is the only one out there for the Wii . . . except for the Anime styled one . . . so I guess I wait another year. Here's hoping the Show comes to the Wii . . . otherwise that's $500 for the console, and $50 for the game.

Strato Matic Baseball.

Not flashy just staty.

You can probably go back 30 years and replay any season, any team.

The board game is crunchy but you can get the cd version to do the numbers for you.
