Default VIIC and VIIC/41

So finally I have made it towards the end of 43. Damn that was a tough year. I had to abort two patrols due to damage, and hardly ever returned to base without at least one scope knocked out. On one patrol i crawled back without either scope, hydrophones, or radar. Average tonnage scores dropped down from 50 or 60 kt to about 20 kt, although i did get 98kt on one patrol when i chanced upon a convoy with two liners in it. I also sank a bogue - that was satisfying, but then i lost all my sensors as just mentioned.

Anyway, I am now offered a VIIC/41 for the first time. On the equipment screen, the offered stats for the VIIC and VIIC/41 show no differences at all. This can't be right. Does anyone know what the differences are and whether it is worth the upgrade cost?

the Typ VIIc/41 was germany's first venture into truly quieting the U-boats. all of them did not have a deck gun, they all had schnorkels, and im sure they all have the upgraded "wintergarten" with 2 light and 1 heavy flak emplacements. the only advantages are the fact that you can run underwater with the schnorkel, and you dont have to worry about a deck gun. i just built a model of one actually.
but im sure upgrading has its advantages, ive never gotten that far, im still stuck in happy time
good luck!

cheers that's quite an advantage. So you can't fit a schnorkel on the older model, then?

If that's the deal, I'm going shopping

well, i got back from creating a 1943 campaign, and ive found that i cannot fix the schnorkel on my VIIC, it just wont go on, i hate it but whatever, you can basically make a VIIC/41 by consistently upgrading your regular seven, the last conning tower upgrade before U-flak, somehow fitting a schnorkel, i put on a few engine upgrades myself, and so on.

I can say now, having put to sea in a nice new VIIC/41 "WeisseSchnecke", it comes with the type2 conning tower, rather than the type 3, and no schnorkel fitted.

The deck gun is indeed absent, but I am yet to see if that amounts to an advantage in the game. I.e., it doesn't appear to yield faster submerged speed and i don't know how i can assess the quieter running that this may permit.

At the moment i'm not sure whether or not it was a wise investment...i was saving up reknown for a XXI

Well the old VIIB is working for now, but when you think about it after '42 the deck gun is just extra baggage. Quieter would be good.

If you have neither Cobalts VIIC/41 Mod nor SH3 Commander it is just a perfect carbon copy of the VIIC.

The VIIC/41 was an improvement over the VIIC in real life (mostly because of the greater diving depth). But due to lack of time (or whatever) the developers just cloned the VIIC and wrote another name on it. So if you got Stock SH3 theres no point in getting it.

I play GWX, but the news isn't good. You are saying I just blew 5000+ reknown on having my deck gun removed? What a con...I feel like a real fool.

I'll have to look into this cobalt's mod. GWX compatible i hope

If you install it with JSGME does it change to the new specs or does it replace the old VIIC?

If I install this when I am in a VIIC, does it turn my VIIC into a VIIC/41?

It changes to the new proper Type41C specifications and replaces the typeVIIC/41 model in game(just a normal typeVII)with a properly modelled typeVII/C41 with the liferaft canisters on the fore deck and everything, its an excellent addition and well worth getting recommended! Its GWX compatible and can be installed via JSGME,although you have to create a seperate folder and then install it in JSGME I seem to remember, something like that, somebody else will confirm hopefully

Just started a new campaign in the med with Cobalt C41. My last boat was lost because of one pesky DD which I couldn't shake. Now in Jan 44 I've spotted a convoy and DDs went straight onto me... they're trying to waste my new precious lil boat...

Med is crazy but so far C41 rulez! She's a beauty!! Go for it (I'm not using SH3Cmd so the game thinks it's a normal VIIC but it doesn't matter)!
