Default Ubisoft and Eagle Dynamics. Another strategy

Hi.

I not just playing silent hunter but im also a huge fan of "LockOn Modern Combat" better known as Lomac. Its a modern jet flight simulator.

The interesting thing about it. It was just like silent hunter developed by a small software forge (Eagle Dynamics) and published by ubisoft. Just like silent hunter it was pushed out to early and suffered many flawes in the beginning. After less then a year patch 1.02 was out and ubisoft bailed the project leaving the comunity with unfinished product.

But the story continued. Eagle Dynamics took the work in their own hands and continued working on project. They told the comunity that they will continue on project but that would cost money and the community agreed. So now after 3 years they have turned what was already a nice day into a juwel. They have released an Addon (which they must call "unofficial" because the rights for the original game remain at ubisoft). They have added a new flyable aircraft and a lot of new content, fixed bugs and replaced almost everthing in the game with better stuff. So in example a new flight physics engine that is extremely realistic. Just the bugfix list in their addon contains about 100 fixes. And they have the entire "patch descritpions" is 10 pages long. I could write letters about all the changes but in few words, they turned an unfinished game into the best real combat simulator of all times.

So why cant the hungarians do the same?

Not wanting to hijack your thread, can i ask you about that game?

I had a rush of blood to the head a few months ago and bought about 4 flight sims. Only tried Lock on for a few seconds, but I seem to remember it was a bit arcady. What you say makes me think ill try it again.(cant find my joystick )

I have downloaded the 1.02 patch, what other FREEupdates can I get? And where?

Thanks in advance.

Mostly because they are employees of UbiSoft, whereas Eagle Dynamics was an independant development house and UbiSoft was just the publisher of LOMAC.

Because Hungarians had nothing to do with SH, SHIII/IV was developed by Romanians in Bucharest not in Budapest

arcady? Well maybe it was a little. It is pretty much of a simulator now. You must go through 200 pages manual just to operate with SU-25T correctly. Without reading that you might happen to release something but you will barely hit.

http://www.lockon.co.uk/

there is the link. All the updates are however on top of flamming cliffs (addon) so they wont work on top of 1.02. And you have to buy the addon to be able to install the updates. And they are already working on next addon where you can fly helicopters.

I played LOMAC:FC and became something of a master mud mover on the 501st A2G server on hyperlobby. But if you want a real simulator try falcon 4 allied force. Graphicsa aren't great, but its streets ahead of LOMAC for realism. I mean you can't even toss bomb in LOMAC, not accurately anyway, whilst in F4:AF you've got CCRP and precision waypoints to lob them from low level. Ideal if there are MANPADS or AAA in the target zone.

I second that.

I'll add in here that Falcon 4 AF also doesn't include that shady StarForce copy protection garbage. Matter of fact, they made it without copyprotection at all and guess what? People still buy it. Imagine that! It didn't affect their bottom line one penny. People who want a good product will buy it no matter if they can copy it or not.

I have Falcon 4 AF that I've not even opened yet. Looks like I'll have to give it a go once I get my Cougar back up and running again. I've heard that AF is a good one, so thanks for the confirmation on that.

GT182, you a falcon 4.0 flyer from before AF? Or are you new to it? I'll show you a few tricks online sometime if you like.

Not to seem to out of place. But lockon with Flaming Cliffs is far from The best flight sim of all time. The only real great part of Lockon is multiplay.

I still play it. But I would say that Falcon is better sim wise.

I kind of agree. It's just the whole AF, OF, Red Viper etc. circus what killed my interest into Falcon(s)

Hope they're gonna release the Fighter Ops soon!
