Default Perhaps?

As we all know the percent function for the damaged boat is not present in SH4. In SH3 we had the nice little percent indicator for how badly damaged the boat is. Being that SH4 is almost a mirror image SH3 in many respects concerning the engine and files to run the game, could the file for percent damaged in SH3 be ported to SH4?:hmm:

Somewhat I feel that the indicators (red bars) of each damaged component is more realistic. I know what you mean but, would be a bit more easy to read etc.

Heh, kind of funny that modders were asked to remove that percentage indicator in SH3. Now in SH4 it's the opposite :p

Personally, I like the SH4 way more but that's just me

Unless i was seeing things, i noticed one day if you bring the mouse pointer up to one of those little bars (not the part, but the acutal bar) a little tooltip comes up that is scaled from 0 to 1.. with 0.5 being 50% i guess.

I'm not a big fan of a % indicator. I could see having a few damage reports possible from your DC team. Like:

"Hull seems uncompromised, sir."
"The hull has sustained damage, sir, it appears to be minor."
"The hull has sustained damage sir, and is probably compromised. Deep diving might be dangerous. The only way to tell will be drydock."
"We've taken serious hull damage, no submerged operations are safe. We need to get back to the barn"

The first would be what you'd hear if you took no damage at all yet, or some minor amount.

The second would be if you sustained damage that manifested itself inside the boat.

The third is the same as the second, but above some threshhold, a hole damage template (or equiv damage) is what I would thing..

The forth is above some very critical level.

Anything that right now would make a hole template in the boat should get #3+, IMO. All would have some chance of total failure except undamaged at all.

I think this is repair time to completion.

I would like this also Tater but I think it is not achievable. I think the only avenue we have is possibly using the SH3 file for % damage. Could be wrong here. I was not a big fan of % damage in SH3 and always had it off.

It'd be nice to replace that percentage string with a line of text, something like the following:

No damage: Hull Intact
90-99% integrity: Hull Lightly Damaged
70-89%: Hull Moderatly Damaged
<70%: Hull Severely Damaged

Okay, so how about-

100%: Hull Intact
<100%: Hull Damaged

I kinda play that way, if I take any damage, I assume the hull might be compromised and I'm careful.

The following is fantasy, but what I'd like to have seen.

Ideally the game would compare the actual hull damage % (assuming it has that someplace) to the crew quality in some way, and randomly let you know about damage in some catagories.

Say the hull is 20% damaged, if you have a good crew, there might be a X% chance each watch that they will report a problem with the hull. Then you'd get a report that in the last few minutes they've discovered some problems with the hull. The better the crew, the more likely they catch it, and the more accurate their report is.

The reports would still need to be the sort of stuff you might actually hear. "It's probably OK to continue" level, "we can continue the patrol, but we need to be careful," and "we should probably head home for repairs."

Actually I just noticed something: you ARE told about the integrity of the sub's hull! In SH IV. Stock 1.3 patch.

How? Take some damage and repair it, the same way you always do. Now look at the crew management screen. You'll see the repair team's name in red (used to be golden) text. Hover over that for a few seconds and a popup window will tell you something like "Damage Control Team / Damaged x/100 / Time to repair 0 seconds". This is after all repairs are finished. I might be wrong but I'm guessing that x/100 is the amount of overall damage you have.

Or something like "Sir, we've done the best we can but suggest heading back" and "Only shallow dive is possible Sir!"

^^^ yeah, IF they catch the problem (which should be a "die roll" based on crew skill and the severity of the damage).
