GWX: Penalty on Renown for sinking a Hospital Ship carrying ammunition?

So I was playing the game and found a hospital ship in the sea with a tanker and passenger liner. First idea was: "Don't fire on her, just go for the passenger liner and tanker." I did this. However, a torpedo accidentally launched when I hit the enter key afterwards. It hit the hospital ship and let out a god awful explosion. Suddenly I realised, from the distinct look of the explosions, the traitor was carrying ammunition!!! I got back to port and suffered a penalty for it. The thing is: she was carry ammo to ENEMY troops (confirmed this when I found that her course was for Lock Ewe; I sank her in the Irish Sea, about 6 KM from the port).

Now, I would like to know why this is so. A hospital ship carrying military supplies is against the articles of naval warfare and therefore, I should not of been charged for it. A screenshot is below of her sinking and the explosion WHICH, after evaluating it over and over and over again, was in fact caused by ammo, not internal cargo exploding or fuel or coal dust (verified in the GWX Manual, page 35 "DAMAGE"; you know the drill on an ammunition ship: fire, explosions all over the place, quick sinkings, sometimes the ship splitting in half...)

I didn't catch the entire thing. FRAPS was being a b*tch. If you had seen it, you would of seen the masts, lifeboats, and other deck appendages pop off in a massive fire storm of shrapnel and objects. The ship sank in, and I clocked this, 46 seconds EXACTLY after ONE torpedo accidentally launched and hit her.

You slammed into the forward deck it looks like. There would have been operating rooms in the stern and center of the ship... with storage of medical supplies forward.

Among the medical supplies was one of the chief anesthetics of the era... Ether.

though ether will put your patient out cold for surgical operations it had one fatal flaw... it was extremely combustible. More than one operating room exploded when only flasks of the liquid anesthetic was exposed to heat or flame taking everyone inside with it resulting in a ban on the substance.

That hospital ship was probably carrying enough vials of ether to take out two or three hospital ships if exposed to explosive conditions.... which it obviously was.

i hope the ship did not contain hundreds of seriously injured German and Italian POWs en route from North Africa... nothing like recently having your legs amputated and finding yourself on a quickly sinking ship well below deck.

Good luck in your future operations herr Kaleun... i would not recommend firing on such ships in the future. The rules are in place because there is no way to tell if medics are treating your own men or not.

:hmm:
"Could you please come with us?? Somebody wants to have a word with you at the Naval Intelligence Office...."
Boomer!! :rotfl:
I don't know how much it will cost you, but you better start bagging more ships to counter the negative renown for that!!

It's OK, I've bagged 643,238 tonnes in the last 5 hours.

EDIT: And don't worry about who it was carrying. I sent all those damned Allied bastards to hell, even if they were wounded. And I'd do it again if it weren't for the penalties!! Even if they were for the Reich, they were weak to fall so easily and allow themselves to be taken aboard a hospital ship! They could be interrogated and betray the Reich!

Practice. Precision. Patience. Stealth. Silence. Intelligence. Faith. Luck.

These are my allies. They are my friends. I am a naval officer of the Kriegsmarine and an honored soldier of the Germany. All foes to her an inferior. Our beloved Führer is a God in the form of a mortal. I shall show no mercy, no sorrow, no feelings for the enemies of the Third Reich. I shall be an eagle of the sea: swift and precise in my attacks while being clever, and altogether deadly. I shall remain loyal to the Reich no matter what. WE SHALL PREVAIL!

That's my gaming philosophy.

whatever works for you silent... but i have a feeling your either using stock or your early on in the war or your realism settings are under 30%...

i dont know, maybe your that good... but your gaming philosophy will not serve you well in GWX post 1943.

best of luck

Thank God I'm still in 1942 under Heinz Ziepel.

Well, nothing lasts forever. GWX won't be good to me in '43, but I'm going to live or die by my code. Made it there once before and I can sure as hell do it again.

And... if it is to be, I'll die within my precious U-100, the Golden Knight of Germany.

So, either way you die?
Earlier on a sea bed or later in a war tribunal...

Yay. Yippeee skippeee.

I guess the floodlights on the evil hospital ship were dangerous.

Furthermore, the "Enter" key to fire torpedoes in GWX has been disabled since the original release... TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL firings!!! (Should be "Ctrl+Enter" in clean GWX installation.)

This Emergency Medical Technician is not impressed and has nothing good to say.

Its your game though. Do as you wish. Blow everything up. After all, the explosions are PRETTTTTY!!!!
