I've used about sixteen different drivers from Creative, both for XP and the new, wonderful vista drivers that took Creative about ten months to make.

Still no *^%*@#^ surround sound. No EAX. The only options are 'mono' and 'stereo.'

So, I was wondering, does YOUR creative sound card work with 5.1 or 6.1 or even 4.1?

Oh, my periscopes work, and I've heard the new surround sound stuff is pretty cool. Too bad that I don't know because my STUPID sound card wont' work with this OS.

That's not a rant. I just hate creative, dell, and microsoft at the moment. My SH4 seems to run pretty well, and all the junk works.

If UBI decides to build anyother cool WW2 sim, I'll buy it.
Hi Dean,
I have Audigy 2z.....at first no sound with Vista, messed with everything, got the vista drivers, but no go. I removed all drivers, installed my orig. drivers, no go. I removed the sound card, tried again and now got some sound. Insalled Vista drivers again over the orig. drivers and "WALLA" sound again. (be sure to set the speakers to the right setting)

Hm, wondering what the hell you are meaning, I invested some time into online research (I do not have the word in qestion in my two dictionaries) - and just learned how terribly off track I was Please take it with humour - this is, after all, a very foreign language for me, so sometimes... - the word I wanted to express was adulthood, of course.

It's plain wickedness to not have let Silent Hunter shine out of the box and be a contender for the game of the year, the way SH3 was.

It was only the quality of the dev team that managed to get these results in such a short time .

WOW. I'm speechless. This! Coming from a dev! You must have been put under a real stress, guys, by the suits back at UBI HQ, to write this post. If things really got this bad for you, you are commendable for getting this game out, in whatever state it may have come. i always had the impression you got 2 years to develop it, but 11 MONTHS! That's tight schedule, indeed. And one more bravo for fully fixing it with patch 1.3. Now I understand even this patch had to be "fought over" with the UBI suits. I think you really earned this:.

Wtf. I'm pretty sure maerean_m is not a dev. Not everybody from Bucharest, Romania is a SHIV dev. As far as I know we only have one dev participating in this forum from time to time - I forgot his name right now, but it wasn't maerean.

And pls, stop this "big evil companies" talk. It's getting old and it's making you all look like a bunch of losers.

one cannot say it exactly, but at least the link in his profile refers to a side of a SHIV dev. http://maerean.3x.ro/iSite2/index.html

from the SHIV dev bio

Well, sir, you are entitled to your own opinions. But I don't feel one inch like a loser, and insulting this whole community isn't very nice of your part. Anyway, please make clear who - in your opinion - would qualify as a "loser" here. Now bring on your flammenwerfer and start flaming here as much as you'd like.

If you have nothing else to worry about, consider yourself lucky.......it has nothing to do with the game, it's only eye candy....

I couldn't care less....

I can appreciate your frustration and I believe it to be true, that the game you put your time into developing would have easily been the Simulation Game of the Year and possibly Game of the Year if given adequate time for a realistic release schedule.

That said, I really like that you have been visiting us on a regular basis. No other game I've ever purchased, have the developer(s) been this pro-active.

It is a great game. I believe as a developer you deserve better than what you have recieved from Ubi management.

Kudo's to you maerean_m

Thank you for your time and commitment.

Let me say that you guys made one of the best simulations with the best graphic engine. Regarding the "greed", I think that a lot of skippers and Kaleuns here are ready to support your work. Grid is grid, but passion is passion. Passion against Greed.

I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when the people who manage software projects at UBI were discussing the development status of SH4. This is of course assuming there is such an office or group within the company. Either they flat out don't care whether titles are finished or not...or something internal to the company took place that necessitated alotting such a short time to put it together. Perhaps they assumed it would be a knock off since it would be built off the SH3 model.

I've been asked on several occasions to estimate how long it would take me to code projects. Almost everytime, I'm told my estimates are too long and have the hours reduced by my supervisor who has no idea what programming entails...and without exception, the projects end up taking much longer than even I originally estimated! It's weird. You would think people would learn from experience.

I think 'The Peter Principle' applies.

"In any given hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence."

I can almost guarantee you that's what happened. I'm sure the suits at Ubi who came up with this design schedule had no idea what the differences between the Battle of the Atlantic and the Submarine War in the Pacific were and just figured a sub's a sub's a sub. Plug one into the other.

Hence the compressed timeline.
