Default What happends if...

...if you accidently sink a friendly?

I just happened to come across a contact in weather so bad I had less than 300m visibility. Fortunately the radar provided a good enough course&speed estimate and manually operating the active sonar provided the range&bearing. Two fish spread. Two hits. Target goes up in flames. Message received "Friendly unit destroyed!". 11kton T3 Tanker added to ship's log.

What's going to happen now? Will my career end when I return to port? Or can I get away with this accidental kill (big renown hit, of course, but that's one thing I can deal with).

Well seeing as it's a one off I think you will probably just take a hit in renown especially if you rack some enemy kills up, these things happen.

Their going to make you walk the plank (actually you'll just lose a small amount of renown, 3 times the renown worth of the vessel sunk, but i'd like to see the first option scripted into the game:p )

Simple solution is never attack until target varified visually

I believe you will find out when you return to port.

Here is a hint... if someone drops the soap, let someone else pick it up!

I understand Seavey Island (Kittery, ME) is lovely at this time of year, (or any time of year) You're going to have quite a few of them to get to know it well - perhaps even 25 to life.

Bottom line... should I resume my patrol or just start over from a previous save?

Resume patrol sailor and learn from your mistake, if your career does get ended at least next time you'll think twice about releasing your fish on an uncomfirmed target
