Then I suddenly noticed a large fog bank appearing at some distance, coming towards me.
Payed no attention to it though.
That was a BIG mistake!
The next thing I remember was that my gunners stopped shelling.
When I ordered them once more to man the deck gun they told me that the weather was too bad.
I checked the weather report which went something like this:
"Light fog, no rain, wind speed 9 m/s, Sir!"

Arrrrggghhh!

So I finally had to waste an eel on that d$&n freighter!

That's my little story concerning weather changes.
So I hope you'll never get into the same situation that I was in.

Happy hunting!
I've had something similar with a lone large merchant. I was approaching ready to deckgun the heck out of him, so i wasn't too worried that he spotted me. Then the weather got worse, i had to do a torpedo attack and the merchant had started zig-zagging because i had approached on the surface :rotfl:

I almost missed him, getting a hit on the stern, but he slowly flooded and sank.

Guys try Reeces recent scene.dat mod. It gives beautiful horizon, new clouds, and waves. Water reflection is a little to big (unrealistic) but thanks to it windows in stormy clouds look just awsome! Don't have a lot of those because game likes to crash during screenshooting or screens are just blank... but now in that res env looks just... speechless.

Screen

PS Sometimes it's nice to lay down on my couch (captains bank) with a book and fall asleep like a baby in the rhythm of diesels going small ahead. Let's just hope for no Alaaaaarm.... this game is insane!

You might like to try Rapidshot from the site below...

It's customisable and works really well in all the games I've tried it with. You'll be able to get all the cloudscapes you desire!

Cool!! Thx a lot, it works instantly, don't have to wait at all and can take 100% jpegs instead of 6mb tga :/

This is a kind of brown darkness I haven't seen before running Reece mod. It's the most scary ever... even in the middle of the roaming storm I feel somehow safer (don't remind me about the radar). It's a pity that screenies don't give that feel.

When the sun goes down...

Glad you like it! I use it in just about every game I have, lets you get a nice collection of screenshots without problem.

Any of you guys ever see an extreme weather change, or any weather change at all at 1x in the game? How does it develop? I'm irked I didn't get to see this....I'm thinking it might have been kinda cool to watch.:hmm:
try to record it with fraps when you go to sleep

I'm about to release a new update to the SHIV scene.dat file (8k only) with the following fixes/improvements:
1) Sun glare at sunrise & sunset. (done)
2) Wave heights at various states. (done)
3) Storm with no clouds. (working on it, looking good, tests over 8 hours so far 100%)
Previous version fixes:
Sky vortex
Moon reflection
Just a teaser, Crewman checking out the sunset:

Cheers.

Very cool, I like the horizon most, it looks very real and ships are not suspended in the air anymore. Only suggestion is about reflection. I don't know how this affects clouds reflection but ships need a lot more ripple. You can find a perfect reflection in the stormy weather (I know this is a game bug but we need to be flexible somehow). Gut gemacht!

That's ok I will add this to the list, I know exactly where to change it, previous versions had more ripple in the reflection but then others were saying they prefer the mirror image, Can't win, I will do 2 versions!

Wow that screenshot is looking awesome. Its that good I've just un-installed the GWX 16km visibility, your 16km stay alert fix and installed your 8km stay alert fix in anticipation...

I kinda agree with Hadrys too. Super-reflective water is very pretty but not realistic. IMHO the water should only be that reflective in the calmest conditions, if that is possible

I've seen a major weather change once or twice. The last I remember is going from overcast, high wind and seas to calm and clear. The waves seemed to take very small step changes, while the clouds thinned out and passed like a front. I'm probably not describing it very well, but it looked pretty realistic. I've also had rain either start and intensify of slowly diminish and stop.

Well living in the south pacific I know that a weather change can happen within minuets. One minuet its sunny and no wind..next its over-cast and the trade winds are screaming at you. Not sure about how the North Atlantic is.

It can be as equally inconsiderate and unforgiving

Sorry, just the terse nature of the message reminded me of a sea story. On topic, I sailed into a squall once too. It was very cool.
