Default Radar operator report range?

Is there anyway to make him report the range of the target rather than "long range/meduim/short"? Surely even someone like Bernard could read out the digits on the range indicator

I have wondered this myself, but I believe in real world situation, they are not able to tell the exact range. I might be mistaked, but I think on the hydrophone they can't really tell how far in meters a target really is.

I mean when the radar operator when he's working the set, not the passive sonar guy.

Oops sorry mis-read that. I am not exactly sure what type of radar the subs had, but I know land based radars, one was able to calculate range. For example the radars used by the RAF during the battle of Britian.

But I would guess the u-boat radar isn't as sophisticated as land based ones. However I could only be totally wrong. I am sure one the u-boat grognard will answer your question soon enough.
