What is the best thing about fireworks?

For me, because of where I'm located, close to the mountains, its that I see them once and hear them twice. I especially like the mortars with the big BOOM!

I haven't seen those allusions in any modern film. You are correct of course, that is exactly what the movie makers were trying to convey.

well the bigger to boom the better

also if you can manage to blow stuff up with just fireworks is fun to..like putting a lot of firecrackers into a champagne bottle ...and then put in a spinning flamer in it.
