Default tweaking the sh3 mini tweaker

i was told that the mini tweaker can't be copied or converted into a sh4 mini tweaker due to some sort of protection built into it, but can it be "patched" not to automatically open sh3 folder?

OK, I FIGURED IT OUT FOR MYSELF

by renaming the "SilentHunterIII" folder to "Silent Hunter 3" the game still works perfectly but now the tweaker cant locate the files automatically (on purpose) and will ask what game folder you wish to open for tweaking just the way i wanted it to.

this would prevent mixing up the games and their files when using the tweaker.

IMHO this would make the mini tweaker much more easy to use by new modders.

I guess you could make a copy of all the right folders and rename it SH3?

well sober i mod sh3 and sh4 and mix them up sometimes but when you select a tweak folder it stays with that tweak folder the next time you open and run the tweaker.

however when you open and run the tweaker it will always go to the sh3 game folder unless you redirect it to sh4.

for me anyway, having to direct it manually every time helps me keep straight which game and which tweak folder i am working on.

i already caught myself unknowingly tweaking sh3 while working on a sh4 mod lol.

but unfortunately you cant open sh4 folder without doing so.

all it will take is for some one to write a simple little program to change the values just like the mini tweaker does. i'm just not smart enough to do it lol.

there must be some smart computer programers out there reading this.......

Consider this registry export file...

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter III]
"InstalledPath"="C:\\SH3\\"

This is what Mini Tweaker reads from the registry. You could hack this back and forth with regedit if you ran mini-tweaker from a script. I never bothered with it myself as I tended to work all over the place anyway. For those of you who do not have SH3 on your disk, just set it to your SH4 path permanantly.

so is there a chance this trick can be used to set things up to run two mini tweakers, one for each version of the game?
