Some of the gameplay settings listed in the manual aren't actually there in the game so that's probably why.

Although you will use the peiscope lock function when targeting a ship, try not to get fixed only on you target. Remember to periodically to unlock and scan around. With no noise meter your first clue maybe the DD turning around and heading towards you. If two or three are heading your way you know you've definately been rumbled! If thats the case, give up your target and get the hell outta dodge. Dead skippers don't sink ships!!

Good Hunting.

Submarines are incredibly fragile machines. Once your pressure hull is cracked, you're pretty much done for. This is no bug.

Not to put too fine a point on it... The manual sucks ! The "noise meter" was a relic of SH3 that dident get edited out.

The "noise meter" was never a part of SH4.

if you dont know when you are making too much noise, should you really be in command of a submarine? 1/3 ahead is a pretty safe bet, any faster and the DD's react to you.

that is all.

Not to put too fine a point on it, he isn't "in command of a submarine", he is trying to play a game where the manual (the major source of "training" for that game) is a joke, being a game it also lacks the sort of feedback that being in command of a sub would give ie you can't neccessarily hear noise when you are too loud, that is why the original noise meter was a realistic option, all it did was make up for a game limitation.

He makes some good points.

Some of us "old hands" know how to be quiet.

Others trying to learn might need a crutch. Or a gentle lesson or two.

That's because we had a noise meter.

Trying to remember if SH2 had one as well.
