You know what I've got a better idea. Why not have a "combo sim"? This sim would be able to run on older video cards and the player could pick if they wanted to command a sub or ship in the RN,USN,IJN,Kreigsmarine, and the Russian Navy and the players career could go from WW1-WW2, and end after the cold war or go the the present, and the player can switch from ship to sub and vice versa, as well as have the correct rank starting in basic training up to the highest rank in that countrys navy. And all previous ideas that I stated at the begining of this post.

That's the irony of these games:hmm: I think exactly the same, and would pay not double but three times as much a normal game for a really really good and bug-free sim. Using very simple maths, UBI could earn the same with 1/3 customers if more people thought as me, which I think is the case for at least 1/3 of the buyers of SH4:hmm: . But trying to please wider audience that has in fact less interest in naval games and is more used to other genres, ends up shifting development efforts into areas that are nice looking but pretty unimportant when compared to core gaming.
I completely agree with what you have said here.

Such is life...
Good question. If only they could provide us with an answer that makes sense.

Since this is at least the fifth SH5 thread I've read this year, I have nothing left to say.

The other game i play, total war, which is similar to SH in many ways, is also peppered with threads talking about the next generation of the game. The problem is that in each thread there may only be none, one or two orginal suggestions, a lot of repetition, and the thread rapidly drops down into the depths and the process starts all over again a few weeks later. The good ideas are lost.

I think there are already some great ideas in this thread and no doubt sailor steve and others have come up with all manner of equally great, or even greater ideas, but may never be seen by anyone.

I think this could be solved by a stickied thread under the control of one moderator or community long timer. The first post could be used for storing the best ideas in concise format. All ideas and suggestions would be posted in the thread, and for an idea to be added to the first post it would need to be seconded and thirded by other members. Something similar, but without the seconding aspect, can be seen here if you are interested http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=59901

This way, the finest ideas would represent Subsim's considered suggestions for the designers of the next SH game and would be kept in a place where the designers can easily find them!

It is obviously not the case that every idea can or will be used, but it is also not the case that every possiblity will naturally occur to game developers. There's always stuff that people haven't thought of.

For me, I have a long list of suggestions too, but that's enough for one post

Well, I hate those damn Egyptians. And the Cartageners (or whatever they are called in English)

Rome Total war is a great game, but gets very repetative later on, and .. boring.

But alas, I stubled on http://dangerdeep.sourceforge.net/gallery.html

So SOMEONE is indeed busy with alternatives.. tried a brief test, not too bad but one needs to get aquanted alot.

A game that actually was tested before being foisted upon us and actually semi works as advertised. Realize that it is too much to ask tho...

What your asking for they wont beable to make the game run on GF 5200 cards - it would be more like the 7 series nvidia cards for SH5. I agree with everything else you say for the game would be awesome.

They're running out of ideas, the americans and german subs have been done twice now. Whats SH5 going to be? Maybe British/Japanese and Russian careers?

I can't say enough about Golden's post about features. A game like that would be, for the lack of a better word, astounding. Even Flabergasting. I think I would drown in the immersion.

Atlantic, Pacific, would'nt matter. I'd have true reason to roll my patrol map on the wall next to me, buy red lights for my computer room, a water fountain, and spend hundreds of dollars on surrond sound. Would be fantastic. Glorious beyond belief.

On a second note: I am an American. I know that the American fleet boats were better constructed and equiped than the U-Boats of the Atlantic theatre. However, the U-Boats have a certain mystic about them, somthing about being the underdog that gets me going. Lets throw ourselves back into the Atlantic next time.

Does surrond sound work in SHIV or SH3?

RTW is a great game indeed. The problem with it is not its being repetative, the campaign map is limited. Battles are hell, best in the market, but city management and diplomacy is pathetic.

but who cares for diplomacy? slaughter them all !
