Default Bagged my 10th whaling factory tonight

I sunk my tenth whaling factory ship tonight, somehow it gives me great satisfaction to sink those, I like to give the whales something to laugh at or maybe I've read Moby Dick too often....

In honour of this event I intend to make custom conning tower emblem so now I'm looking for some good pictures to photoshop....

If anyone knows of any impressive Moby Dick images I can Photoshop please let me know

Oh got my oakies too for this patrol so drinks are on me

Default Whale Factories in WWII

Most of them were converted to carry oil during the war, just like regular oil tankers (whaling was out of the question during hostilities, as events would prove). Ironic, since some whale factories were originally oil tankers which had been converted to process whales.

Enjoy them while you can. In version 1.04 they will not spawn nearly as actively.

This over-active spawning was caused by the ship name in the roster... similar to the initial problems we had with the Pyro ammunition hauler earlier in the GWX release cycle.

Sometimes these issues take some time to spot and confirm... but we shall fix'em... be vigilant against the same problem occuring again... and drive ahead.

Easy tonnage, just like low realism settings, will soon bore a player anyhow.

Good to hear you have spotted the problem. Its so true, better to get those juicy targets only rarely, its more rewarding.

I've found those juicy targets to be expensive; two eels to bring one to a stop, then wait to surface and sink with shell fire. But they make excellent shields when evading escorts.

Kpt. Lehmann,

But you're right I did see them fairly often in convoys probably spawned as a tanker...it did seem a bit unrealistic, more likely to see T2 and T3s in its place.
While I'm on the subject, it seems that sometimes s-class submarines spawn as the last ship in an outer row of a convoy, normally I'd expect an auxiliary cruiser or something similar, I've seen this happen twice now with different careers, put up some screenies in the screenshot thread too, somehow it just doesn't make sense to see a submarine chugging quietly along as part of a convoy, would this be the same issue?

concerning difficulty sinking whaling factories, 2 torps for 10k+ tons seems a fair deal to me, the last one I sunk was a bad gyroangle ( like 290 or something) magnetic shot at 1500 meters, the ship was coming straight at me and would have crossed my bow real real close, maybe even rammed me, I fired 2 steamers, 1 went right under her bow, and the whole front end blew up, the ship started sinking immediately leaving a nasty black burning oil-stain.

oh well, back to the hunt, somehow BDU decided to send me and my type VIIc to ET26 which is right outside Freetown , guess we'll be rowing most of the way

edit: I'm popeye now??? groovy

No! Don't remove them from convoys! I need them for a little bit for my first 100k!

No the subs are meant to be in the convoys

Convoys did sail with subs in part of the way out when the sub would depart for a patrol
Unfortunately SH3 models a convoy from start to finish

Will check out the positioning though
Shouldnt always be inthe same place

BBW I guess it makes sense though, it's usually the spot occupied by a warship of some sort, that or it's smack bang in the middle,

could you drop a hint as to why those evil passenger/cargos are so hard to sink?

I've also noted that convoys haven't got neutrals mixed in anymore, which is great, since a friend of mine who started stock SH3 at 100% realism got his first big score blasting a passenger liner out of a convoy at 5000 meters at night, only to have it turn out to be a neutral, which caused him to give up the whole thing in frustration

Maybe not as many due to incorperating the lit ships but they are still in

Not sure about the passenger\cargo's
I assume you mean the one around 2000tons ?
Will ask Von he did the damage models

A neutral ship in convoy is, and was, a legitimate target.

Just sunk me an S-type submarine in the Med, north of Crete, 1 fish didn't sink it, weather was too messy for the deck gun, but did stop it dead an made it lurch about with it's screw out of the water....had to eventually use another fish.

Historically this would have been sort of U 571 (not the movie, the event) in reverse
