I have a post in the "Forced retirement" thread where I explain how you can edit a couple of gamesave files in a new career so that you will start the new career with your tonnage and player ranking from your old career. You may find that it helps a little with the disappointment of being retired.

To bad, start a new career. Personally, did not like doing 30 patrols in SH3, little ridiculous.

After getting a new Balao Sub at Pearl, I was transferred to Brisbane. When I returned to Brisbane after sinking 18 ships I was only able to refit. I traveled to Freemantle I was able to dock. Upon docking I received metals and was told that my sub class (Balao) was being retired and me along with it due to poor performance. End of career. However, I started to look into what could have shown a lack of performance. Upon looking into the "CareerTrack" file, there were no entres for my last patrol out of Brisbane. For whatever reason SH4 failed to record my sinkings throughout my last patrol and upon docking it must have concidered me an poor performer based on the "CareerTrack" file.

This has been discussed in other threads, the early retirment seems to be linked to being given command of a Balao Sub before they were actually available, therefore when you return to base after your first patrol in the Balao you get forced retirement.

Fix - When asked if you want to upgrade your sub, select no. Just wait for the Sub upgrade to be offered again later in the campaign.

I have tried this and it works

And just one other thing, please stop using text speak in this forum, it is really annoying and does not help in putting your point accross

So, which year is the 'proper one' to accept the upgrade?

Oh, by the way, I can sympathize with the frustration here - to a certain extent of course!

I mean, if you have to go through crashes / bugs / whatever, install one MOD after another, follow tutorials and so-on and then you are 'retired' for doing a good job (so to speak), well - there is a breaking point!:p

Incidentally, can someone confirm that successful and decorated US sub skippers were 'retired' in the middle of the war?

It sounds a little odd to me, at least this is something I have never come across.

Using things like ur for you are or m8 for mate, it's fine for mobile phones but I hate seeing it in forums, there's a keyboard at your fingertips, try using it. (not you personally)

Just a pet hate of mine

'So, which year is the 'proper one' to accept the upgrade?'

All I know is I refused the upgrade In July 43 and accepted it in Nov 43 and I have so far got my career as far as May 44

[Falls in with Stabiz and forces marky to the ground, injecting a shot of sleep-aid up his anus]

There. Now he should calm down.

Seriously, though, calm the Heck down, marky. The day you've made your own little video game a fraction of the detail and complexity of Silent Hunter 4, you can throw tantrums like a little two-year old. Except, of course, that by the time you've made and published your own title, you'll not throw any more tantrums as you'll realize the work and effort that goes into the making of them.

Constructive critisism. Look it up sometime.

Why didn't you post this in the "Forced Retirement" thread? Do you really think your ranting is special enough that it deserves its own thread?

Here's a hint: It's not.

Don't buy simulation games if you don't like realism.

Yea, I wish more people would post on existing threads more often because there's way too many here already.
