Anyone played this, friend of mine from EVE(when I played EVE) played this and said it was pretty good, apparently it was a huge map of Europe, and it would play till one side won in which it would restart, I guess being a pilot is really hard and its really satisfying to hit a tank with a anti-tank weapon cause it can take an hour or 2 to get into position... Also has naval warfare I guess, reading the Wiki, Destroyers, Patrol boats and Cargo ships, might get the trial and try it out. If I like it and can somehow convince my friend to let me quit WoW, I'd probably Captain a Patrol boat... |

I tried the trial when the game was first released ~4 years ago or someting like that. Didnt like it back then as it was very buggy, but I think most of the bugs have been ironed out by now.

I've been trying this on and off over the years (I've purchased an activation key). Although I love the concept, I'm just not crazy over the execution. I can sacrifice graphics for gameplay, but with the nature of this title and the current level of graphics, it makes it difficult for me to get immersed (I know, my loss).
Still, I can see why others enjoy this MMO. |

Here's a nice flight vid from "Finnish Virtual Pilots Association". It's depicts one full CAP and they actually find the enemy!

I thought it was ok. Again, as stated earlier by a user, the graphics were just about a mediocre and didn't immerse me which is an instant flaw when I play games. I was especially not happy over the monthly fee I'd have to pay just to use the thing (got the version from their private user site). Anyone else agree?

I played for about 6 months, even made it into the Allied High Command. I unsubbed just after the turn of the year. Basically the game's concept is great, but CRS just doesn't have a big enough staff to deliver on the promises. Within this past week, they have shut down their open forums and converted to a new forum where only subscribed players can view. This is part of their big scheme of ignoring any problems. If you try to post a complaint or suggestion about the game, they simply delete it. If they can't read any problems, then there must be none, right? Sad to say WWIIOL is in its deaththroes. They can't pull off small updates without many bugs and lag, which just after Christmas caused a mass unsubbing in the community. There is a much smaller number of players subscribed to that game than you think. The graphics update, and new theatres that were promised a couple of years ago were utter lies.

Well i was considering commenting on this game, i played it for about 6 months at release before i quit for a number of different reasons. But if i did comment it would be very long and i dont feel like writing it.
The game has been out for a while as mentioned by others, its graphics are pretty dated (heck they were kind of dated when the game came out) and at least when i played the dev team was very slow in updating... even now i dont think the game has quite delivered on what was promised to be in the box at release 4 years ago. |

Well I've been playing it, dunno if I will keep playing after my trials done... Its a fun game, flying is fun and stuff, but it is quite empty besides a couple towns at once, and nobody does multi-crew ive seen... it also disconnects alot, and the fact that the only way to play is to log on to my computers admin account, (can't even do a "Run as") really pisses me off...
Graphics are good enough for me like I've said... Flying is deffinatly fun, though dogfighting is a bit hard... |

Its probably the best battlefield sim game out there for multiplayer/coop. Operation Flashpoint and Arma are good but, don't have the same gameplay and vast environment this one does.
PROs -It has the largest battlefield map in any game ever released. -Cities are all different sizes. -Terrain varies in many areas making every battle interesting (for as big as the game is you don't get repetative environments) - Time and lighting transitions from day to night. - Battles go on 24/7 (its hard to sign off) - Some Cities may take a weekend to capture depending how well defended they are by other players. - Capturing Cities require alot of teamwork. It requires you to capture and hold structures (you can't do it on your own you need alot of people to invade and setup defenses for a counter attack) -There is actual strategical targets (bombing structures actually reduces resources) -Game model is very well thought out (forward bases, cutting off supply, resource choke points) - Lots of roles to choose from: Infantry, Paratroopers, Anti-Tank Guns, Flak Cannons, Fighter Planes, Bombers, Support Trucks, Tanks, Gunboats) -Sounds are excellent in game. There is time delay from when you see impacts to when you hear them. -Very active virtual sqads to join and play with (the best way to survive in battle) -Your units you play gain rank and skill as you play unlocking more weapons and vehicles you can use. -Overall strategy is amazing. You can use small teams to scout or spy on towns pre-invasion or use aerial reconnaissance to find troop numbers or movements. -Resources are limited. As vehicles die they are removed from inventories. As cities get bombed resupply of inventories gets reduced. CONs -Can't jump from one role to another. Can't leave vehicles and go infantry. You either have to respawn or die to change roles. -Graphics and animations are outdated for as old as the game is. -There is no fire or smoke that you can see from a distance. The main instincts you use to find hot areas is through visually seeing tracer fire or by sounds of explosions and gunfire) -Units are limited (There is no Artillery, Mortars, Mines, and other equipment used in WW2. There are only a handful of vehicles and airplanes to choose from) -Dogfighting is pretty simplified (its no IL2 but, its ok for as massive as the game is) -New Chain of Command system requires ranking officers to be online to issue orders or objectives. If there is no leadership there is noway to gain ground. This is a very nice model but, if I am paying to play I want to have active leadership 24/7. -Price. Game goes through population swings. There is on average 10-20,000 people registered. Most activity occurs during the Free welcome back soldier promotions. Battlefield Europe is better than the old WW2 Online. Although its the same engine it added Paratroopers, Smoke Grenades, a Vehicle Mobile Spawn for infantry (although unrealistic improves gameplay tenfold), and slightly better graphics. Multicrew has its advantages: - ability to drive dynamically, change direction, and attack at same time (you can only drive straight while attacking with single tank crew since you have to keep switching between the driver and gunner positions) - ability to see around vehicle and know the person with you will help defend your vehicle. If he is in another tank he might just watch himself rather than help watch out for yours (most of time people work as team so this isn't a problem since enemy kills help promote character) - your crew has pretty much the same view point you do to easily call out enemy sightings. - ability to defend bombers more effectively with rear/side gunners (without pilot having to switch) - ability to defend ground vehicles from aircraft while trying to hide from strafing runs. - the commander posiitions on tanks and field guns have a binocular feature that helps in spotting targets while readjusting fire. What you say is true in a way but..
Ability to drive and shoot at the same time is largely irrelivant other then at close range, as its very difficult to shoot accuratly on the move (these tanks dont have independant turrets with stablized guns). I generaly played only with fellow squad members so point two wasnt a problem. Playing with my squad i didnt have much problems with locating called out sightings, Oclock and range (close, medium, far) call was usualy enough to find the target rapidly. Personaly i think a fighter escorting a bomber is far better protection then a single bomber with the gun stations crewed. I dont understand this point ![]() Ya dont need multi crew to check where your shots are going using the commander spot, just have the commander looking where your gun is pointing, switch to the gunner spot, fire, and switch to the commander, rince and repeat. Now here are some of the advantages of single crewed vehicles More targets for the enemy to have to kill instead of everyone dying in one single vehicle. More firepower and more overall amunition More infantry to help capture (instead of 8 fully crewed tanks you could have 8 tanks and 16 infantry). You can spread out which will reduce the chances of getting flanked/ambushed, also offers better survivability (I use to play the german side, spreading out and attacking from multiple points was key to survival as none of our tanks could take any hits). |

The reason I wanted to do multi-crew is because I wanted to learn how to play effectivly, its hard to keep a valuble tank alive if I don't know what to do with it so I wanted to ride along and see what the driver does and get a feel for stuff, bombers too.

It's a fun game. I like the combined arms / massive multiplayer aspect. It is really one of a kind game. Unfortunately, massively multiplier doesn't lend itself well to first person shooters.
