Default What the hell does South Africa need with SIXTY-THREE submarines?!?

The submarines were part of a shipment of 63 that had thus far been ordered, the company said.
Linkage

Surely a misprint??

Launch unrestricted submarine warfare against Zimbabwe or Namibia?

Seriously, they ordered four, two of which have allready been delivered.
But SA stayed conservative and ordered conventional diesel/electric 209s, not AIP 214s.

Wasn't there a really bad book that was like this? SA buying a bunch of ceramic hall subs with flying nuclear torpedoes that could shoot down aircraft?

Actually a good joke

South Africa with 63 submarines??? OK it would be even more strange for Swiss or San Marino to have even one submarine (Though there IS a Swiss Navy AFAIK ), but admitingly it sounds a bit ilogical
