Default New player questions.

Hello all,

I'm new to SH4. . and all other subsims actually, aswell as this forum. So far I love the game and this site has provided me with loads of usful info, now I'm just having a few problems.

1. I have a graphics problem that causes all my crew to look like cardboard cutouts when my graphics settings are all the way up. (I have a fairly high end computer too)

2. Sometimes I start a game and the map is all weird, it has these streaks down through the entire thing all the way across that distort the map.

3. Sometimes my crew will start saying numbers randomly over and over and over again like they are reporting something but they arent. So all I'll hear is "2. 5. 6. 1. 7. 9. 5. 7. 8. 3. 6. 8. 4. 3." and so on till I get so annoyed I turn off voices.

I'm sure I had one more problem but I cant remember. Anyway, any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

These have all been reported as cracked no/cd or pirated problems. If your legit make sure you patch to version 1.2 or call Ubisoft.

Hmmm, that would explain it. I copy all my games onto the computer and use a emulator to run them. Keeps the CDs safe. . . So there is no way to fix it?

Not that I'm aware of. You must start the game with the disc that you purchased. As much as I would like not having to put the disc in, it is necessary to do so for the reason you stated above. Therefore, I have glued my DVD drive shut and this will protect my disc.....

Silly Warhak thats what jewell cases are for

All this talk of "protecting my dvd's" frankly I have never had a cd or dvd get damaged to the point it could not be read. I might point out that Ive been gaming before CD's even existed and have never... ever... had a disk fail on me. I do take care to put them back in their case. It only takes a few moments to open the drive tray and drop a disk in there whats the big deal ? My SH3 disk still works and probably has hundreds of hours of use.

Well except for that one my wife snapped in half but thats another story.

my original Diablo 1 CD lived in my drive so long after a year of heavy use it developed a crack from the center of the disc to the label and still functioned fine for another 6 months before it broke. i emailed blizzard and they exchanced it 1 for 1 without any problems.

i am sure that if you manage to play SH4 that much ubi will replace a broken disc in a similar fashion.

I have never had a disc break. I believe it is more of an uproar that the DVD drive is being used needlessly. I have had one ROM go bad on me. This was way back when they were in their infancy of computers and drives.

I also had a CD crack on me (NFS4) but eventually managed to replace it. (not from EA). That said, if I have the SHIV DVD in the drive on boot up it winds up to max revs (about 7000 rpm I think) for about 5mins or until I either start the prog or eject the disk. This was a minor irritant but its beginning to get on my tits.
I also seem to remember another celestial CP prog doing similar.

I've had many a CD broken, I admit it is my fault for not taking care of them properly but, in any case that is the reason I copy my games. Oh well, I found a cool thing at Wal-Mart, these little sheilds that snap on the cd and protect it and the computer can read through it. So I got some of those and I guess Ill just have to use the CD for this game. Thanks though!!
