[REL] Realistic Crew Ranks and Skills (NOT compatible with 1.3)

Realistic Ranks and Skills Mod

-Realistic Ranks:

This mod removes the ranks of Senior Chief Petty Officer and Master Chief Petty Officer from the game. Historically these ranks were not established by the U.S. Navy until 1958. In addition, the Seamen ranks now display their proper WWII-era titles.

-Skills:

This mod also removes the unrealistic IncreaseTorpedoSpeed and IncreaseTorpedoDamage local abilities. Torpedoes are complex weapons, so while a crew could be expected to decrease their loading times and increase their maintenance skills, there is no way a commander would allow the crew to tinker with sensitive items like the propulsion system and warhead.

SIDE EFFECTS:

You will notice the crew level numbers jump from 7 to 10. This is unavoidable, as levels 7 and 8 uses the Chief Petty Officer crew management image for these ranks. Just consider that ranks 8 and 9 are for officer cadets back in class at Annapolis.

INSTALLATION:

This mod is JSGME Ready. For manual installation, extract these files to /Data/UPCData/UPCCrewData.

COMPATIBILITY:

This mod is compatible with Version 1.1 and later.

Good idea! I hope it works as expected.

Is this compatible withthe realistic crew configs, or does that mod supercede this one?

Interesting. Didn't know E8 and 9 weren't around until 1958.

As t0maz has said, they are compatible and complement one another.

I think you're right, especially after reading this thread. Beery, if you're reading this, I'd suggest removing this mod from RFB altogether, since we now know what these skills actually do.

And...I must disagree with you in turn, and I mean no disrespect either, as I come from a navy family as well (both grandfathers, one of whom is buried at the National Cemetery here in Riverside). From the OFFICIAL U.S. Navy Historical Center website:

Quote:
The pay grades of E-8 and E-9, Senior Chief and Master Chief, were created effective June 1, 1958, under a 1958 Amendment to the Career Compensation Act of 1949.

Valor at Sea is flat out wrong. I don't know where they got their information from, but in any case it's totally incorrect.
