Default Going 100% Realism... Any tips for manual targeting?

What tips do you guys have for manual targeting? Anywhere I can find some information on how to solve out a torpedo solution?

Practice, practice, practice!!!!

Manual targeting and 100% realism is not for everyone, each player enjoys the game in a different way and 100% realism can't be labelled as "the best". It will simply depend on each player's taste, some like that challenge, others don't as it tends to distract from the hunting.

If you go for manual targeting, the best tip at first IMO is to be patient and enjoy even the misses! Yes, even the misses as they also teach you something. You must learn from everything, including errors. Get different tutorials and see which methods fit you best. Sometimes you will like more taking some from here and some from there to make your own method.

Happy hunting!

Here's a hint, especially when you're starting out on manual. Many kaleuns tend to overestimate the speed of the ship they are targeting. Therefore, you need to undershoot 'em a little.

Unless you're one of those kaleuns who tend to underestimate the speed of the ship they are targeting. Then you need to lead 'em a little.

Of course, you might be one of those kaleuns who tend to guesstimate the speed of the ship exactly. In which case you need to make sure you hit 'em in a vulnerable spot.

Conversely, you might be one of those kaleuns who tend to overestimate the range a bit, in which case you...oh, you get the idea.

Happy hunting!

I think what he was saying is that you need to figure out your tendencies. I tend to shoot aft alot because I guess the AoB as being too close to 90 degrees.

One way to do it is to guess it, then do the hard math, and see how accurate your guesses were.

The basic idea is to build up instincts. You want to turn the procedures into something you don't need to think about so that when you do think you can think about the minutia of detail. Its easy to be overwhelmed at first.

I'd suggest doing the torpedo school mission on manual first to get your feet wet.

I just found / intercepted / hunted / sank (1 shot) my first anything without using Weapons Officer Assistance.

I liked it. Not sure how much hard math I can manage but hopefully I'll get a good enough feel for it to be able to continue doing it at 100% realism.

Wish me luck

There isn't much hard math involved. Mostly its just addition and subtraction. You can use certain equations for finding speed and AOB and range but they're pretty simple too.

The hard math is done by the TDC itself.

I'm 2 hits out of 4 shots now.

The 2 I hit I have no idea what I did. Had the gyro firing on some kind of imput. Have to remember how I did that. heh
