Default JSME and 1.2

Hello everyone. So I decided to do a complete fresh install since the 1.1 patch (couldn't find the JSME program to uninstall however, it wasn't in the add/remove programs, start menu button, or in program files, where the heck does this install to?). Unfortunately after backing up my saves and mods, I uninstalled the game, reinstalled the game, installed the 1.2patch, moved the MODS folder back into the SH4 directory and then went to re-select a couple mods I hoped wouldn't be affected only to realize I had not disabled the mods the previous time I ran the game (all of the mods were on the right-hand side even though none were actually "installed").

So I had to first click the << arrow to disable all the mods, and I'm wondering if that screwed up anything with the 1.2 patch. I'm thinking I should reinstall the whole thing, but please let me know if you think everything is fine.

The reason I ask is because I had LOTS of CTD's with the previous version and don't want to attribute bad game code/bugs to my mistake.

Thanks everyone.

The instructions with the program just tell you to install it into the SH4 folder:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\JSGME.exe

I also don't have a Start Menu shortcut or anything in my Add/Remove Programs. I assume all the setup does is copy the JSGME.exe file and create the MODS and !BACKUP folders. That's it. It may be written in .Net and not need any additional files installed except just the .exe.

It would be nice if they included an uninstall option like most users would expect. But I think you can just delete the .exe and MODS folder and be ok.

It appears that the info about what mods are installed is saved in a file called JSGME.ini which is in the MODS folder. I have not tried this, but if you delete (or just move it to be safe) this file, I'm guessing your Mods will not appear to be installed anymore. If that doesn't work, try editing the file and removing the list of installed mods.

It must reside in either the MODS folder or some other non-SH4 folder because I uninstalled everything including the SH4 directory before reinstalling.

I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me if anything should be wrong since I've ALREADY clicked the << arrow.

Thanks for the response.

JScones can tell you better, but the way I believe that the JSGME works is this:

When you activate a mod, the program makes a copy of the original files that the mod changes. When you deactivate a mod, the program overwrites the modified files with the original backups. Since you've patched SH4 in between activating and deactivating your mods, the original backup files may not be current anymore as they could be files affected by the 1.2 patch.

I would reinstall to be on the safe side.

That's what I was worried about. Thanks for the reply. Off to reinstall when I get home from work. Here's hoping the CTD and save/load issues have been squashed!

When you install it, you'll get an option asking where you want to put it. Put it in the main SH4 folder.
