Default Bug or Unbelieveable stroke of luck?

After having been pursued by a DD for an hour and a half I had become pretty confident that he didn’t know where I was so I decided to head slow and silent to periscope depth to get a look and see if I could get a shot away. As I raised my scope and brought him into view, I saw an explosion on the DD’s stern. At this point I had not fired any torpedoes. All I can think of is that I brought him into view just in time to see his own depth charges fail on him and explode. Of course the chances of actually seeing something like I think are slim to none and slim just left town. So I don’t know, is this a really exciting turn of events, which SH3 has provided for me in several occasions, or is it a bug? Will GWX simulate another submerged U-Boat who could have possibly torpedo'd him?

I'm pretty sure that it was a fluke. Its possible that with stormy weather a ship can be damaged so that it sinks. I've never seen it myself so I don't know if that answers your question as to the explosion.

Depends on your location

Could have been Luftwaffe - if close to Axis occupied coast
Could have been an AI sub
Could have been Kreigsmarine - if close to Axis occupied coast
Could have been a mine - though DD are usually too shallow to hit them
Could have been a land unit - if close to Axis occupied coast
Could have been he blew his own stern off with DC

Hi,

I saw one DD depth charged himself in SH4 the other day, i laughed a lot :rotfl:

BUT : This morning, in GWX, i saw one DD do exactly the same thing, and i did not laughed Don't know if it's a feature or a bug. ( i used External view when i saw this). It was in single mission : Convoy PA-69.

It's a kind of funny thing to see, though ... :rotfl::rotfl:

Edit : it is the first time i see this in SH3/GWX.

Don't know if it's a bug or just a very inapt DD crew, but I had several occasions where DCs of an escort blew up either itself or another DD that was crossing it's course. Sometimes they just destroy the DC rack in the rear, sometimes the whole ship sinks.

Sorry guys, what you are describing with the DC's is a stock SH3 bug having to do with detonation variance. We've worked on it A LOT to reduce the frequency of this problem occurring... but to one degree or another, it will remain a problem that we cannot remove completely.

The closer you are to the surface, the more often it occurs.
