Default Why does Subsim Allow "Fantasy Mods" to be posted??

So now we have Deck Gun Mods that fire like machine Guns and Torpedo Mods that are as powerful as nukes. So where does Subsim draw the line on what gets posted on the site? Are there any standards at all? Anything Goes?

Photon Torpedoes maybe?

The blurb at the bottom of the opening page states the site is dedicated to submarine simulations. But to post mods like the ones above causes the site to lose its credibility in my opinion....

Ok..fire away..

I suggest you remove all clothing now so that it does not melt and fuse to your skin.

i think veryone should decide for himself how he wants to play the game, so fantasy mods as you put it shoudl definatly be allowed here so that people can play the game the way they want and if they want to have automated machine guns then they can.

It's everyones freedom and right to play the way they want.

So please keep the fantasy mods coming

Chacun a son gout. I think it's a huge strength of Subsim that it can and does cater for all, from the hard-line 100% realists to the guys who want to fire a single torpedo, hit every time and watch a battleship explode. Live and let live, I say - Most of us fall somewhere between the two, but here all share the spirit of mutual help and support, whatever our game-playing preferences.

I'm probably going to be one of a very small minority that doesn't respond negatively to your post. I agree with you 100% in terms of your desire to see only simulation stuff here. I'd like that too. But on the other hand, policing the borderline would be next to impossible, as one person's realistic mod is another's outright fantasy.

Anyway, from my perspective as a modder, I often find that an outrageous fantasy mod will often point me in the right direction to enable me to mod things realistically. I found this to be the case just yesterday when I found a mod by (I think) Ducimus, which made deck guns into veritable machine-cannons. I used the info I found in there to enable me to restrict deck gun reloads to a realistic speed. Without Ducimus's vile scheme to turn the game into an arcade massacre-fest I'd have found it much harder to find the necessary info to mod the game the way I want it.

So, as in religion, it seems even evil mods exist to serve good.

Last time I checked the Gestopo was not lurking about to find The Clan of the Crazy Mods . The line is drawn at flaming, vulgarity, in appropriate posts. We keep it civil and do not wish to squash creativity all be it a fantasy super-submarine. To each their own.

Your barking up the wrong tree. I never touched the deck gun. Nor would i ever do that to the deck gun. I can already tell were gonna be buttin heads in the future. If anything im going to lower the shell damage, *slighly* increase loading time, and increase flooding time on ships. But i wont do it to the extreme that you will. My philosophy has always been to make a challenging submarine game. What is historically accurate is not always challenging, or always fun.

Hence I do make compromises in historical accuracy, but only when i feel its unavoidable to the the restrictions the game places upon you. A big one being the short visible range. If i could have a 16KM visual distance, alot of the changes ive made in my mod pack i wouldnt have made at all. As alot of compromises i felt compelled to make based on limitations that made certain aspects of the game highly annoying for want of a better term. In sum, you have no idea what ive been doing for mods.

As for "fantasy" mods. While i dont actively use them, they do have their place. Sometimes it's just fun to break the rules and do something really crazy. But again, i wouldn't advertise, nor use them for normal play. I think going really deep is a cheat. Nuclear torpedo/deck guns is a cheat, Hell, i feel the external camera is a bloody cheat. But that doesnt mean i should admonish "fantasy" mods for being posted. It's not my buisness to tell, let alone insinute, how other's should play a video game.

Actually this type of game/sim gets very boring fast with "cheats" I used that x2 torpedo mod or what ever its called (just to see if the damage graphics showed every time, which it didn't) and it does get to easy and plain boring after a while. But if ppl are creative and find stuff to tweak, no prob. Modding is a little bit addictive I must say, and if you find some idea or concept and decides to crack that prob no matter what...well I guess a lot of you guys know what i mean...its like cursed...can't bloody stop until U cracked that prob, its like that for me anyway.

Maybe. Clearly you take my humourous posts way too seriously. The fact that I thought the mod was yours wasn't an accusation, nor was it meant to annoy anyone. I just thought it was your mod. I didn't realise I would need to do serious research before posting a little joke.

Lighten up dude. Not everything needs to be a fight.

If you really find me annoying, for goodness sake put me on 'ignore'. If you annoy me too much I'll do the same for you. There's no reason for anyone on this forum to get to the point where 'butting heads' is necessary.

I didn't think your post was 'humorous' as well Beery, but more of a slightly-disguised flame. Ducimus was IMO absolutely right to clarify this.

I sometimes think that you have a serious attitude problem, because from time to time you make yourself look extremely arrogant.

Just my 2 cents...
