Default Apologies but basic question

I have just started missions on the easy level.
It seems to me at first look that via the periscope ,Japanese ships are identified with red outline---but via Sonar lines on map they are identified by blue line.
Is this correct and if so is there any reason why the difference in identification?
Thanks for any clarification on this fairly basic question

I think it's to differentiate warship contacts from merchant sonar lines which are gray. Not sure why they picked blue. :hmm:

Thanks for the confirmation. I was a litle puzzled initially because I thought that friendlies were coloured blue . If they are why not stick to red for the Japanese warship sonar lines as well as the surface views. Seems less confusimg----but then what do I know?
