Default You wanted campaign starts in 1945 - you've got 'em!

Yes, that's right - we can now start careers in 1945! Whoopeee!

http://www.beerymod.com/SH4/Beery1945mod.7z

I found the file that governs campaign starts and I've altered it so that we can start campaigns in 1945. I haven't researched any of the starting divisions or anything yet, so they may be totally wrong, but we can take boats out. I'm releasing this mini-mod so that others can (if they want) test it to see how well it works. I've only tested a Brisbane start so far - haven't tested the other two starting locations, but they should work fine.

When you go into the game, start a career as you normally do, but when you go to the year there will be a scroll bar on the right. Scroll down to 1945 and select it, then choose your base of operations as usual.

Happy 1945 starts. Let me know how everything works. I'll be sticking this one in the next RFB, and I guess now I have to get my hands on some texts so that I can put the right units in the right naval bases.

Yay! Hehe I'm quite pleased about this. Now it's 4:30am and time for sleep.

Great find and thanks! Interested to see how escorts / destroyers behave.

Nice, but a mid-44 start would be even nicer

All in good time.

Once I get hold of some data for what subs were deployed and where they were deployed I'll see if I can tweak starting dates and add more starting dates to the game.

I've just been looking into the starting date issue. It appears to be impossible to add a choice of starting dates unless the developers add that function in a patch. The date can be changed but you cannot get a choice of dates in the game. A mod like SH3 Commander would be able to do it, but until something turns up the only option is to edit the text file that controls career starts (CareerStart.upc).

Forget what I wrote in the above post. I've found a work-around that will let us choose from a potentially unlimited number of start dates. I just need to create a CareerStart.upc file with the relevant dates - it should be easy but it'll take a little time.
