It sucks to be looking through a scope at night, then have to look at a book that is illuminate with bright white light...you totally kill my night vision through th scope.
Bathe the ID book in low-intenstity red light or something, so i dont have abig white haze in my scope after i cloe the ID book. |

Sorry you may have to post a picture, I made the darker sils after seeing a picture of the manual at night that someone else had posted, I can't actually play the game until I get a new video card so I don't know what to suggest.

I need the pages not so bright white, the images are fine...just imploy the night/low-light illumination used through out the ship at night.
Protecting your night vision doesnt just apply to the watch crew while on deck...nighttime protocols for lighting apply everywhere. |

Are you using a CRT monitor or an LCD?
On an LCD, everything looks fine. I'm thinking you're having problems because you have a CRT which is much darker in 3D view (scope).

How is the night mask on the position keeper done? I've been looking through menu_1024_768.ini, but I just can't figure out what makes it only show up at night.
Unless it's hardcoded by name or something, it should be possible to attach the same kind of mask to group G25 (the recognition manual). I'll look harder at it, but I don't think I'll be able to figure it out. My only aborted ini tweak was an attempt to add the missing needles to the position keeper (they're in the texture file; take a look). I couldn't get them to show up on top of the dials for anything. |

![]() On my previous monitor, a CRT, every night *even full moon nights* was pitch black in SH3 and it's the same deal here.

My nights werent pitch black, I had to set my gamma to get the dark, rich nights. Before it was just a medium/bright grey...the night sky was almost luminous...that sucked.
I set gamma for dark night skies without cutting down too much on moon and star illumination on surfaces...bvut because its so dark, I have to get rid of the bright white used to illuminate the ID book. |

The issue is that they failed to apply a night filter to that part of the interface when everything else got the treatment, not hardware. The recognition manual should go through the same transition as the nav map. In fact, if nights are bright to the point that you have no issue switching between viewing a white page and looking through an optic at the dark of night, then you probably have an issue with how your monitor is adjusted, or the ability of your monitor to render blacks and contrast. The recognition manual should go through the same transition as the nav map.

exactly! If you dont have to be a dark room to play night sequences then your night is dark enough. |
