Default Without tools, what use is the attack map?

Anyone know of a use for it?
I can understand the uselessness of a 3d radio room...But, an attack map with no drawing tools? I really hope the standard toolkit gets added in the next patch (or someone finds the config file to mod)

*ed: I always play with manual TDC, so, if it does have a use with AI TDC, I just wasn't aware of it...

I would like the tool kit on the attack map to, wiered why they left it out. And maybe if they could also make it so that repeadedly clicking F3 would jump back and fourth between the nav map and the attack map.

Way to much button clicking going to and from the attack map currently.

The missing bearing tool is the most serious omission.

I would also like to have the option to be able to switch to yards rather than nautical miles on the attack map, given the TDC and sonar all use yards.

The attackmap was always useless imo. Put all the tools on the navmap and it would be great.

All the tools *ARE* on the navmap. That's the problem right now. I do agree though that the attackmap is rather useless and only useful on lower realism settings where you can see the ships and your torps gyro angle and estimate launches etc...

Suppose so. I played with manual targetting for a long time so I forgot about that. Anyways I always found that the attack map was actually WORSE for making manual solutions than the navmap. All I lack is Jiims bearing overlay for SHIV

I think Jiim made NavTools v1.3 for the NavMap, and I think Plato made the Bearing Overlay for the attack map.

Have you tried the Bearing Overlay by Plato in SHIV? I might work just the same as it did in SHIII.

That uber relative bearing overlay isn't an easy plug-n-play in SHIV, at least it doesnt appear to be to my untrained eye. Differnt file names... different file formats etc.

I'd hug the person that ports this mod tho! THat tool is pretty much required to plot a manual solution with a reasonable workload.

Even on the Nav Map there isn't a course plotting tool with the rest of them. Not sure why they put it down the bottom and made it a button.

I poked around last night to see if I can get SH3 style navmap tools working, and I have gotten them to work, but not completely to my liking. You can see what I have gotten so far here:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=108459

I'll try to do some more tonight on this.
