Default A Borg Cube on the Horizon

Running on a AMD64 with 2 GB memory and a Nvidia 5700 with 256 MB memory......

System is slowed down, mouse clicks are erratic, screwy graphics anaomalies,
distant ships are gray, black, green cubes on the horizon...

There are some issues here. My Vidow card is pretty decent but this game has a problem with it.... AAARGH!!!!

When I sent in my System Specs they said it was fine and actually very good... Now I'm having video issues??

Really bummed out, love the game but this early game bug period really maes me feel bad that I spent money so fast..

Keep the fixes and mods coming and figure out why a 256MB card isn't enough....

Well, they never said a 5700 would be supported. I'm stuck too having to upgrade my video. Not only do I need a new vid card but a decent power supply to run it with. Pretty much any decent card requires 350w supply at minimum but many cards need 400W or more. I unfortantly only have a wimpy 300w. So...I'll end up spending probably close to $300 to play this game before I am done.

edjcox, I'm afraid the amount of video memory on your card is in no way an indication of how fast it will perform. It determines what resolution textures you're able to run, and provides the GPU with some "workspace" to do its rendering. A very common "trick" of many vendors is to trumpet a system as "Kick-ass Gaming PC!!!", due to the card having oodles of RAM, but it's a fudge.

Unfortunately, the 5700's GPU, the part that does most of the donkey-work, is now very dated, being what, 4? 5? years old? Also, the 5-series cards, one of which I am currently using on this PC (5900 ultra), were never that great or efficient anyway, and had trouble running their own Pixel-shader 2 architecture. If you really want to upgrade your current card without changing or upgrading the whole PC, I'm sure there will still be a few AGP versions of ATi X800 pros and X850 XTs doing the rounds on E-bay for a decent price, and if you ensure it's a new card, you'll be safe to buy.

Like Grothesj2 said though, you'd also need to upgrade your PSU, as the cards I mentioned need a 350/400 Watt PSU, with a dedicated 6-pin power line for the card, which most good PSUs come with these days.

No your card isn't pretty decent. ITs a 3½ year old museum piece. Don't blame SHIV on that. Try get a cheap X1950 PRO or Nvidia 7900GT.

That might not be necessary if you have a quality PSU. Which 300W PSU do you have exactly, what CPU and what card do you want to buy? VGA manufacturer's requirements are always somewhat overstated because of lots of cheap PSU which have bloated specifications.
