Better yet, weigh Bernard down before throwing him over. Let the bottom feeders have at him

Lol first time I've seen someone post hoping for *bad* weather!

Let us know if you make it back safely. There's a glass of schnapps waiting for you at the O club!

It would be nice if SH would model engine overheating... I suspect a damaged engine/prop shaft would be quite prone to that... should bring the fun to a 2000km trip

I believe SH3 Commander has breakdown/sabatoge program.

Erm ...... Does a "bottom feeder" have anything to do with the Navy Dude?

It's amazing what a difference a slight repair has done for the damaged prop - an increase of 1-2 kts. I must have been soooo close to being immobilized if I had lost both!

Nearly at rendezvous point with u-tanker, then the patrol of the Cape, and then the looong return home via the Gulf of Guinea and aim for the air gap between Ascension and Freetown (if there is one).

Will keep fellow kaleuns informed of progress.

Sabotage in the South Seas!

In the continuing saga of this most problematic 3rd patrol of Luger and U-158 the most un-believeable thing has happened!! I made it to my rendezvous with the Milch cow in GG grid. Boat has been re-armed, refuelled and even a shiny brand new prop has replaced the destroyed one.

But... upon reloading the game (2 days have passed in game time thanks to Sh3Patrol) I ask 'Bernard' the coxwain our estimated range at our optimal cruising speed (10-11 kts) and I am absolutely gobsmacked to discover we only have enough fuel to get to the Cape Verde islands. Some sod on that damned U-tanker shortchanged us with our refill of diesel! I should go back and ram him.

So now we have to have another stopover on the way home and the original patrol grid near the Cape is out of the question... we shouldn't have left port.

We'll get home one day... in bloody 1943 probably! :rotfl:

Try setting speed at the most economical cruising speed. I'm now using a Type IXB, and I find 9 kts gives me the best mileage.
When I start off from port the navigator tells me I can cruise 22,000 km at 9 kts.

Won't help this time matey because being such a grognard I play with sh3commander's optional sabotage/malfunction and guess what happened when I loaded sh3 next time round? You guessed it. My range was seriously affected by some sort of malfunction. I checked this using TimeTraveller's crush depth doodad and sure enough range was brought down from 13,500 nm to 6,600nm! Annoying but realistic.

Makes the game so much more challenging hehe.
