Default Any way to play GWX with the stock water?

Hi there. I have a quick question. I just got GWX but I kind of like the transparent blue stock water better.

Is there any way to change it back?

Like I mean when your looking underneath the water in GWX its really dark and you cant see too far. How can I change this back to SH3 stock water?

Thanks for any help.

I use SH3 Commander, which has an options setting to fine tune water tranparency. Now that I run without external cameras it doesn't make much difference, but hey, it's in there.

I love the GWX water...I seriously had a problem with crystal-clear Bermuda water in the North Sea. North sea water is dark and ugly...with oil-stains.

Turn your water clarity level up to 20 in SH3Cmdr....it's as close to stock as you'll probably want or take the scene.dat file from your original stock version

@ nx02nx02

If you want the clear and blue water back, but you don't use SH3 Cdr, but you use JSGME, I have uploaded two GWX compatible versions (8/16km), which you may use with JSGME!
It's stock blue water and water transparent level of 18:

Is there any way (say, for the GWX team to add as a feature), the ability to change this value by region?

For example, in the Med summer or in the Caribbean, a value of 15-20 probably IS realistic.

Of course, it's not in the North Sea or Atlantic at all, so...

...if a way could be found to edit it during play, that would be great.

Nup. 1 scene.dat = 1 set of settings.

You need a tool like SH3Cmdr, which currently does a similar job: stock SH3 uses Atlantic water textures in the Med, and SH3Cmdr fixes this by cross-mapping the correct Med textures (I'm talking career mode here).

Using SH3Cmdr, a player can adjust the "transparency" however, and whenever, they like.

Otherwise, it's a JSGME shuffle of multiple scene.dat files.

Erm...if SH3Cmdr can cross-map textures so that 'Med' textures are used in the Med instead of 'Atlantic' textures...and allows a user to manipulate the transparency whenever they want...why can't it do that at the same time?

IE., when it is replacing the textures with Med textures because it sees you've moved into the Med, it also changes the transparency?

(Or, is it not doing this 'realtime', and only between...ummm...?patrols? Or something?)

Erm...it can.

It doesn't by default because of the multitude of scene.dat versions available - plug the wrong one in and bang goes your sky.

There is NOTHING stopping players from utilising SH3Cmdr to do exactly what you have asked. And to do it, all they need to know is how to tweak scene.dat and how to use SH3Cmdr. Fortunately, there's posts on this forum covering both.
