Default Type IXB...I'm a Believer

Got my IXB and have done two patrols with it so far. I've had one before, several careers ago, but never really test drove it the way she deserved.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm a VIIC man from way back. But, my God, this is a sweet li'l sub, the Type IXB. Yes, her dive time blows seahorse chunks, but the armament this little lady hauls around isn't anything to sneeze at. I'm on my third patrol with her right now (Late July '40) and I have to say I'm enjoying it immensely.

Dunno if I'll opt for the IXC, though. That thing is a hog compared to the "B". Worse dive time and one more torp...whoopee. But if I feel I've wrung all I can out of my current IXB then I may upgrade.

Anyway, wanted to share. Still a VIIC lover...but now I have a new sweetheart on the side!

Sadly, the IXB and IXC have the roughly the same dive time. Try one out in a single mission and see for yourself

What you do get in an IXC, is more fuel.

Jointhe Club mate!

Nothing beats the IXB. It's the perfect Boot! Sure, little slow to dive, but a bit of caution and a good IWO will do it!

Just take a look at thie impressive Fore-Deck! If you ask me there's space for one more deckgun!

I can reach New SYork with my VII (no matter B or C) too and head back to the french coast - without refueling!

My Sub has a range about 23.000km

you need ~16.000km to NY and back, so enough room to waste diesel for hunting convoys

(23.000km when running at 8knots...)

I'm a IXB man myself. I though she was a ugly pig compaired to the VII. After using her for a while one can appreciated all the torps and distance she can go. All of a sudden she was a beauty. Currently on patrol #2 and 6 ships sunk, 7 torpedos to go and plenty of fuel to do it

The IX/D2 is the best of the lot just a shame it's 1943 before you can get one.
