Default Ship Names

When you come upon the battleships or aircraft carries in the single missions they have the names of the ships on the note pad next to the periscope when lookin at them but in the careers mode it never gives names of ships I thought all ships had names painted on them in the rear. I would like to keep track of the names of the ships I have sunk. I was just wondering why no names on naval ships when approaching them.:hmm:

This has been somewhat fixed in GWX. Also, if you use SH3 Commander's "Use Real Ship Names" option, your patrol reports (not on your current patrol, but in the logs) will have ship names instead of the generic class description.

Probably for the same reason the German stopped marking the submarines with big white letters and numbers on the conning tower. To make things harder for the enemy - enemy ships and any kind of 'bad eyes', like spies or locals as well.

Not during times of war

IIRC the only exception during the very early war period were neutrals and that was often just the name of the country to help lessen 'mistaken identity issues' by the beligerants

Some of the warships are 1 ship that represents 4 or 5 so its not really possible to have the names on
Ordinarily British/US warships didnt have the names on - only penant numbers painted on the hull

You will normally see the ship name in single missions as the ships name is typed in while adding through the mission editor
Not possible with generic entries in the campaign layers hence no names show in Peri

SH3commander will give you ship names in the patrol log
