Default 2 "iffy" points on GWX

Gday fellas,

I love GWX. said it so often before, will continue saying so. The more i get into the game the more i fear the missus has some serious competition...

But, today in the space of only 3 hours i've found 2 little things that surprised me regarding AI. I know that not many changes can be made tp it. but i had a pair of avengers seem to locate me from beyond visual range and home straight in on my location. As far as im aware they were never equipped with radar.

Secondly, whilst attacking a convoy the escort somers DD blew off its own DC racks in an almighty bang while trying to bang away at me.

I think these are stock issues, but thought id bring it to people's attn anyway, in case it hasnt already been done.

Wow, blew off it's own DD racks! As for the Avengers, several possibilities: first I think some were in fact equipped with radar, I know some Swordfish were, second maybe they were guided in by a surface unit with radar (yes SH3 AI units do communicate), or did you send a patrol or contact report to BDU as HF/DF loaction is also kids of simulated.

Planes are small and fast. They are blue in a blue sky. They are high up and can see for miles.

U-Boats are big and slow. They are grey in a dark sea, but they have big white wakes. They are low down and can't see as well as planes.

Guess who will spot you first.

The self-destructing depth charge rack is definetely a stock issue. I suppose such things could technically happen, and I do like random malfunctions, but it happens way too often to be realistic. As it is, it's just annoying. I don't know what GWX can do about it.

As for Avenger pilots, they can see for miles up in their aircraft, as Letum said. And hey, they're supposed to be dangerous and have an advantage.

As far as i'm aware that is a SH3C issue, Not GWX's.

I have not had a warship blow off his stern yet . Bummer.... I think the AI planes are good and not just outlandishly good.

Seems like you guys have this well in-hand.

Just verified here that Avengers are not equipped with radar in GWX.

DD rack explosion issue is stock prob... old news really. However, I have read numerous accounts of real life DC rack mishaps. We've managed to reduce the occurrance in GWX... but not eliminate it.

You find the DD blow their stern off more as the sea state gets worse and you are shallow

The DC are set shallower for you and as the DD rises and sinks in the swell its @ss end is lower on the down movement and so boom

IIRC this was looked at during the alpha of GWX and Von tried to limit the chances of it happening
But as its a stock bug its not always possible to erradicate completely
Yet

Read the entirety of my post:p.

Oh, and I've got a fix for you! Rollback SH3 Commander, open the EQP file of each destroyer class, find the entry for depth charge racks in each file, and change it to "NULL". Save the file.

No more exploding depth charge racks. Tested and working.

I've also seen a Corvett blow off it's own Stern in my career. It seems the DCs went overboard ok but were set wrong and blewup as they hit the water. Served 'em right for evading my torpedo. LOL But it was a shock as I've not seen this in the stock game.

The other strange thing I've not seen in the stock game, and only just saw it in theGWX PQ17 Single Mission, is numerous AI merchant ships colliding and remaining stuck together. There were 6 ships tha collided and each pair continued to sail on that way... in circles. 2 collided and caused damage and fires on each but separated and moved apart to continue on. Seeing PQ17 tkaes place in shallow water, numerous ships that were sunk showed their bow and sterns still above water. This is no surprise as I've seen it before. The surprise was a Medium Merchant running into a pair of sunken ships that had collided. If the wolfpack sank them, or they sank themselves, is not known. Just behind the Med. Merch was a Large Merch and Med. Merch stuck together. They came close to running into the same sunken pair but just missed. It was actually quite funny to watch all this take place.

And yes, I do have screenshots but will have to size and post them later on today.

Last night I got my first convoy attack in GWX. The Flower in front of it (the only escort) detected me and ran straight for me. I was at 15m, and lined up perfectly for the whale factory ship, so i stayed put. When the flower passed me overhead, he dropped a dc, which exploded instantly because he was right over me, blowing off my flak gun, and his racks! Naturally, I surfaced, used my 105 to great effect in bringing the flower down, and decimated the convoy Great partol, because 2 days before the convoy, I got a flattop carrier moving in a taskforce with 2 fiji's and a few destroyers....
