I know what it does in the real world but does it have any meaning in the game? Do torpedos use it for launch? I can change depth without it.

I guess we could simulate its use in the game by using it EVERYTIME when we want to surface. The discipline is saying that you cannot surface if it reads zero.
Its the only thing I can think of. ![]() |

I remember SH1 . every change of depth consumes compressed air , and more blow ballast.
so , it was very important don´t expend a lot of air or you are death ![]()

In SHII you couldn't surface if your compressed air was used up. In actuality the dive planes can get you to the surface and keep you there, or else you could never run decks awash. Once the deck is on the surface you can run the diesels and start recharging the compressed air, then blow out the tanks and surface for real.

I'm not sure if I read it being done by US boats or German, but I know it did happen on one side or the other (or both). Now, if you had a destroyed compressor, you pretty much were screwed because you really couldn't dive safely unless you had full tanks of compressed air. Even then, you could probably only dive once. You'd have to go on the surface. Alternatively, you could trim for decks awash, and dive dynamically using the planes, but that assumes you can maintain a decent forward speed. Creeping at 50 rpms probably isn't going to keep you down very well ![]()
