Default OT - Frame Rates with GWX

Just out of curiosity I wanted find out what my frame rates were like while in external camera mode in port and out at sea. I'm running the GWX mod and I have found while in port with all the activity going on I'm running about 18 to 24 FPS, but when I venture out to sea I'm running pretty much double that at 42 to 48 FPS. The interior areas run about 10 FPS more than previously specified.

From a hardware poiunt of view what components help boost the FPS figure? Is it a combination of RAM, Mobo, CPU or Graphics Card? Or is it a particular compenent such as the GPU?

Current Spec

AMD 64 3500+ 2.1Ghz
Corsair TwinX 1 pair of 512Mb modules (1Gb Total)
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe
Asus EN7900GT TOP Graphics Card

I'm running a X800 Pro. I get the same as you in port, 18-24 FPS but at sea I can pull in about 80 - 100 FPS. This is with the AA/AF + Textures maxed out on the card settings.

Try and enable your cards Adaptive AA you should see a boost in performance.

There is really nothing in your setup which is pulling down your performance.

If you want better frame rates in the harbors, you can enable the 'Lite Harbor Traffic Mod' as well, FYI.

I'm using a GeForce 7800 GS OC (AGP) on a high end system. Typical framerates I'm pulling are 40-80 zoomed in and 120+ zoomed out. (GWX with mods).

Probably the best way to raise your FPS would be to install 'Lite Harbor Traffic Mod'

Default Smoke and FR

Hartmann, I found that if I cut the particle density in the SHIII options, my frame rate goes up a lot. I found that I don't miss the smoke that much.

I think it's "Ctrl" & "F8"

It seems that it's a trade off for beauty and performance for the time being - unless you want to splash out on some super kit to get those FPS ratings higher.

I'm quite happy with the detail levels at the moment even though I have the AA settings etc set to the max.

I have an upgrade planned for next Spring, mainly upgrade my mobo, CPU and RAM - hopefully the GPU will be able to handle SHIV, it would be nice to have a rough idea as that game's hardware requirements.

Is there anyone running SH3 & GWX with 2Gb of RAM? Is it worth getting anymore?

I'm running a new E6400 dual core with 1 gig and a 7600 GT OC. The only time I get choppiness is in ports when it first loads, but no other slowdowns or slideshows. I plan to upgrade to 2 gigs soon though.

I'm using 2GB (upgraded from 1GB).....it doesn't actually improve anything 'cosmetically'
However, it did improve my loadind speeds by approx. 30%
