Default Soundman Map Updates?

In GWX, do I have to turn on "God's Eye Map View" in the difficulty settings in order to see my Soundman update the map with small hash-marks to sound contacts? I went on several patrols with the "God's Eye Map View" unselected, and my soundman would only verbally tell me about sound contacts that he had. He would not put any type of mark to that sound contact on my map view.

This last patrol, I decided to select "God's Eye Map View" to see what happens. Oddly enough, when I selected this feature, it did not make my realism percentage fall to a lower percentage at all. It just stayed the same. I also noticed that my soundman will now draw that old little black solid line to all sound contacts. I guess this is better than nothing, but I sure do wish I didn't have to have all that other stuff on my map. It really seems like I am cheating with all those other map features.

What am I missing here with this in GWX? (Both soundman are radio qualified, so I am sure they are not updating my map in the first patrols because of their qualifications)

Is anyone else having this issue? Or, could it be an installation problem on my part?

This is not an issue or a problem. This goes as far back as the original Real U-Boat (RUB) supermod. The problem is that the "God's-Eye Map" gives way more information that any real kaleun could possibly have, and the only alternative was to turn it off, which left no information at all; also highly unrealistic. The original RUB solution was to limit the information available on the map, and then turn off the renown loss for using it.

Later mods have used limited updates similar to this one, also shutting off the loss of renown. My personal favorite is the one that gives no information at all unless you pass the cursor over the ship, then you only get the location, and even that is just a dotted circle. Now that's realism!

So, in GWX, if I leave the "God's Eye Map View" feature unselected, then it is normal for me to not recieve any map updates from my soundman when he gets sound contacts?

I thought I was reading a post where people were talking about their soundman marking the map for them in GWX. You just needed to be zoomed in to see it. I have tried that, and it didn't work. This is when I started wondering why I am getting no sound contact map updates.

I don't have GWX yet, so I can't say for certain. It's been so long since I've been able to play I don't remember if the Realism chart says "Map Contact Updates On" or "Off". Updates should be enabled and it should work.
