And range, you just can't get to the North Atlantic hunting grounds in one with enough fuel to get home. I had a type II for about six patrols out of Kiel hunting mainly in the North Sea. I managed to earn enough renown to get myself a type VIIC which is far superior in range, speed and firepower.

Why sure it does!

Renown earned per plane:
  • B24 = 100
  • Wellington = 70
  • Sunderland = 70
  • PBY = 70
  • Avenger = 50
  • Swordfish = 20
  • Hurricane = 20

Nemo

My ideal hunting grounds are not in the atlantic like mid way in or places like that i prefer places like the western approches or choke points like that another good place to hide around is the mull of kintyre or the kattergat.

All the shipping has to pass into the western approches or mull of kintyre at some point to reach liverpool or bristol or the east coast of the UK there fore i see no point in hunting right out to sea where there is less chance of seeing a ship.

I wonder if anyone has tried to go through the war with only a IIA? It would be intresting and a true test of skill to find only the best targets (BB's and Liners for example)

Thats a minor oversight with the game really. Technically speaking the 2nd flot should ONLY get the VIIB, and thats because it uses one in 39. But since its flagged for type 7's because of that, you'll see ALL Varients of it as they become avaialble.

Sometime in 1940, the 2nd flot starts to use type 9's exclusively, and for most of the game, the patrol grids will reflect that. All i can say is if your in the 2nd flot, and are using a VIIC, your gonna cry when you get a patrol grid to GR89 or DB98

--------------------------------

To clear any remaining confusion:

What flotilla to go to, depends on what kind of patrols you like to do:

Short range:
29th flotilla, uses type 7's. (or 1st flot in early war for type II's)

Mid range:
1st, 7th, and 11th flotilla's. They use type 7's.

Long range:
2nd, 10th, and 12th flotilla's. They use type 9's. With 12th flotilla beiing the best place to aquire an IXD2.

Default I too am a little confused

I started in the 2nd Flotilla Saltzwedel out of Wilhelmshaven with a VIIB. I have completed two patrols. (TGW)

I looked at the choices for a transfer and it tells me two Flotillas - Weddigen and Wegener. But I don't know where those Flotillas are based.

I want to get to St. Nazaire as soon as I can, but I don't know what Flotilla that is.

Should I stay at Wilhelmshaven in the 2nd Flotilla for the time being?

I really don't want to get transferred to Kiel.

I want to get patrols in the North Atlantic, but from Wilhelmshaven I have to go over the top of the British Isles. I'm not going through the Channel.

Also. if I wanted to attack a port, which is the easiest?

@ Rob
The 7th Flot Wegener goes to St Naz in around Sept 1940
You cant transfer till 3 patrols anyway so the choice is yours mate

@BBW

Thanks for the info.

I looked up the Flotillas in Uboat.net and it doesn't even list Weddigen or Wegener.
