Can anyone recommend a good over view book of the American Pacific campaign of subs during WW2. Costing no more than £20.00 (UK)

The time life book called "War under the Pacific" is a good one, give a great overview of the Pacific undersea campagin. It also has a chapter on Japanese submarine operations, and a brief history of British operations as well.
It's best to source a second hand copy from Amazon or the like, I'm not giving up mine!!! ![]() |

I also liked US Submarines at War by Edwin P. Hoyt.:hmm: Don't see it on Amazon though- maybe I got the title wrong.
![]() OK, here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Submarines-War...e=UTF8&s=books Also by Edwin P. Hoyt, the stories of the USS Harder and USS Bowfin; both very good books: http://www.amazon.com/DESTROYER-KILL...e=UTF8&s=books http://www.amazon.com/Bowfin-Story-F...e=UTF8&s=books BTW - if you search some more, there are different editions and listings for all of these books, so you might get a better deal if you check the other listings. And a general search of books by Hoyt: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b/...&Go.y=13&Go=Go Most or all of these are WWII/Pacific Theatre related. This is not a complete list though - some of his books are just listed under the name Hoyt - and if you search Hoyt you will get a lot of crap from unrelated authors with the same last name. ![]() |

"Red Scorpion" by Peter Sasgen. It's about the USS Rasher's war patrols. His father served as an ensign aboard the boat from its construction through to the end of the war.

Well, first of all this looks to be a mighty fine site:
http://www.submarinebooks.com/ I bought "The Destroyer Killer" in paperback awhile back for only $4. It's a short and fun "non fiction story book" about Commander Sam Dealy and the USS Harder (SS-257). I tried to find it for you guys, but it looks like the 1989 printing was the only one and you'd have to pay like $25 for a used copy. ![]() SO, instead, at least I can provide the wikipedia link about the Harder: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Harder_(SS-257) These guys actually went after Japanese destroyers since the cargo ships were getting scarce!
