Default SH3 Commander was wrong!

Today I (03.05.1941) sunk an old Clemson destroyer who flew the british flag (white ensign) but SH3 Commander told me I sunk the USS Shubrick:hmm:.

Well that's because Clemsons were US destroyers. Some were sold to the british and were called Town class. Seems like SH3 commander doesn't take this into account, if it even can...

Unfortunately SH3commander cant distinguish between nations so it will give you a historic real ship name but may sometimes be from the wrong country

I first noticed this way back when I sank a small British tanker and it named it SS President Jefferson, which was an actual US C-3, which was a dedicated type, not just any large cargo ship.

Unfortunately the work required to give all ships the proper names would be a lot. Some of us are still trying, though.

So when the British took control of those obsolete destroyers did they rename them or just swap the old USS for an HMS?

EDIT. Nevermind, I answered my own question accidentally while looking up the COmmando raid of St. Nazaire in 42:
"The destroyer was HMS Campbeltown, an obsolete craft. She was previously the Buchanan of the US Navy, transferred to Britain early in the war as part of the Destroyers for Bases Agreement."

Yes, this is because SH3 does not record the nationality of sunken ships. Hence, as SH3 maintains no record, SH3Cmdr has no way of knowing either, thus a name is pulled from a generic list created by a number of people (as you know BBW ).

As it currently stands, most merchants and tankers (excluding Liberty's and Victory's) pull from the same list of names. But there's no reason for this to be "set in concrete" - name lists can be created specific for any ship included in SH3.

That would be great. My fear is that then the files might get a bit big, but if it can be done it would be really fantastic. Can we expect it soon(ish) ?????

:rotfl:
Well as Jaeson said its a long tedious job
Ships such as the T2 etc should have there own names not come from a generic section - saying that Observer did a great job with the ship names to begin with

There MAY be something that can be done - say within the next 6 weeks :rotfl:
