As an old man of the sea (33 years old) i have enjoyed many sub sims over the years going back to Silent Service on the ZX Spectrum.
![]() More recently ive been playing Dangerous Waters as a seawolf skipper, which is a great game but lacks a few things, mainly company, with SH3 you can at least see your shipmates in the boat giving the feeling that you are never alone in your little tin boat. ![]() Im fairly new to SH3 having started playing a few days ago, so I have a few questions for the more "salty" players:- 1.In career mode is it possible to just go out on patrol for as long as you wish, maybe even visiting the Royal Navy ports of Blighty and blowing them to bits? 2.It is better to return to home ports for maintenence or can you return to any friendly port and recieve the same benefits. 3.Is there any restriction on where you sail your boat to, for example Brest to the American coast, and will there be any targets on route or do you have to create these missions yourself? Many Thanks sonics (also a real submariner on RN T-Boats) ![]() |

1) You can go anywhere you want when on patrol (that is, if you have enough fuel).
2) By returning to some other port than your home, you cannot upgrade your boat. You just get fuel and torpedos. So, it´s better to return to home. 3) You can take your boat to the American coast, there is traffic there. But remember, most of the traffic is neutral until 1941. Hope this answered even some of your questions! Good hunting! ![]() |

Welcome aboard!
1) You don't have to stay at sea for only the 24h in your patrol grid. It depends on the suplly of fish you have and the fuel you have. If you have both, I see nothing stooping you on fulfilling your destini and sinking a nice, fat battleship inside a port! 2)Dunno! I always return to my home port, but I heard you can do the same in a friendly port, but you can't upgrade your boat there (NOT 100% SURE). You can also milkcow and get your fish and fuel like that if you wish to spend an even extended time at sea ![]() 3)If you play campain, there are always boats around. As for SP missions, I'm not sure :hmm: BTW, what kind of boat are those! They look nice ![]() Nice to have a real Kaleun here! |

Many thanks for the swift replys shipmates.
The picture is of a Trafalgar Class SSN (Attack Boat), the class of boats I serve on in the Royal Navy, quite comfortable as far as boats go ![]() |

Um... you might want to scale down the picture. The signature picture must not be over 120 pixels high and 400 wide.
Here´s the 120 x 400 version of it. ![]() ![]() |

Welcome aboard mate
![]() You can't go far wrong with the information given in this forum by it's members, it's always top notch. ![]() FYI, (not wanting to do Gizzmoe out of his job) but you might want to consider resizing the photo you currently have as your sig, lovely as it is, it's too big. Once again, welcome and enjoy your stay. Dan

As a sort of addendum to the info everyone else has given...
In regards to your third question, it really depends on if you're running out-of-the-box stock SHIII or if you're running any mods. I know the Grey Wolves mod includes traffic along the U.S. east coast and the Carribbean, whereas the original game didn't have much at all, if any. So you can get yourself a Type IX and go be a Drumbeater. ![]()

If you want to get maximum renown you should return to home base. Other than that you can go whereever you want.

SH3 is kinda like GTA: Ubootswaffe. You can do pretty much anything that a u-boat could have done. The world is how they say Dynamic. So the game manages the whole world's behavior. So the coding says that a convoy leaves Halifax on a certain day and if you run into it in your patrol after a few days the game has been keeping track of it as if it were there all the time.
Very cool. Even in single missions you can sail anywhere you like. |
