Default Pay as you throw

Local councils are today thinking about introducing pay as you throw scheme, it would mean the whole of my area would need wheelie bins, as it stands we can do a 13 mile route in around 6 hours if they did do that and put wheelie bins on our routes we would be finnishing around 9 to 10 hours a day.

But how would they implement it ? how can they charge a block of flats? and it would make our lives alot worse.

So what would you say to pay as you throw?

If I knew that anything from this would go on something that would benefit the local community then fair enough, but chances are it's going to go into the pockets of fat cat councillors and never make it down to the people who need it. So no deal.
(Plus, like you say Kap, it's making more work for the people who collect it)

There are plenty of ways to use pay as you throw. They have something like this in my town were you have to buy stickers, they have two types for the different sizes of trash bags. My brother in the next town over, they have to buy special bags for the trash men to pick up. If you don't pay for it in a fee you will pay for it in taxes anyways..

I think we will just see neighbours dumping trash in each others bins. I think the old tax system is better. This way all pays, and if you use someone else's bin doesn't matter as he pays the same in tax for it.

The bin lift will wiegh the wheelie bin that part has been discussed in my council not only that it supposed to stop the bending of the rules so to say.

However in order to do this we will need:

37 brand new lorrys all fitted with a bin lift each lorry will set you back £78,000
3 new glass lorrys each costing £56,000
The fitting of all the wieght sensors and other items £110,000

And who gets to pay it only the humble tax payer!

We buy our lorrys direct from DAF we do it in a chain so we dont replace the fleet all in one year its spread out to save money, we are due to get rid of the 1999 X reg lorrys for the brand new 06 reg ones we buy 3 or 4 at a time. to save money each lorry only lasts around 5 to 8 years due to the harsh terrain it navigats on the refuse tips.

But doing this wheelie bin idea is stupid cause only 12 of our lorrys are acctualy capible of bin work.

If you look at the front rim of your wheely bin there is a spot about a third of the way on the left that has a weight sensor underneath it!I am not kidding. It transmits the weight of your bin as it is emptied! This scheme is already up and running in Devizes.I aim to get my money back by getting my library to request submarine books from out of the local area as it costs them £25+.

All of our refuse work here in basildon is bag work we do not have wheelie bins, infact we are instructed not to empty or move or do anything in anyway to any wheelie bin left for us to collect.

The only time we empty wheelie bins is when we have whats called special route notes.

Linton, remove it but don't damage it and send it back to your local council.

I heard the residents in one of these areas that have this bin bug have beaten their council and all the bin bugs have been recalled, people power wins the day.
