version info for SH3

Where do I find the version number for SH3? I am having a hell of a time re-installing a clean version of SH3. I followed the instructions in the newbies guide but when I try to apply the 1.4 patch I get the "unknown version" error and it wont install. I purchased the downloaded version of SH3 and I am wondering if the patch was already applied? I also was running the Grey Wolves supermod and need to reinstall that. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same trouble and it's driving me nuts!

I uninstalled and reinstalled the game in order to try the Grey Wolves mod, but before aplying it it says thay you have to patch your game up to date, but the darn patch install won't work.

I too get the "unknown version" error, specificaly for the file "en_help.txt"... and I'm installing from the DVD, so it's not an issue of wether you downloaded the game or not.

Anybody have any ideas?

The version is dependent on being DVD, digital download or EU (Europe). And you will need to make sure you patch with the same kind. (DVD, digital, EU etc).

When you uninstall, you need to go where SHIII was installed and manually delete the leftover files you will find there. The uninstall program does leave a few files behind, the help files being some of those left.

there are 4 'Versions' of the game as well of the patch 1.4b; these are the DLs for the different patches:

Patch 1.4b for US Download Version:

Patch 1.4b for EMEA Download Version:

US = United States, America etc.

EMEA = Europe, Middle East, Asia etc.

Download = game downloaded + purchased via web

DVD = game purchased in a shop [or anywhere ] on DVD

That was the key in my case... I just manualy deleted the offending file (no reinstall or anything like that necessary, mind you) and it worked perfectly... now I'm wondering what bussiness did the patch have checking a file that is so meaningless that I could simply delete without consecuence? ... or maybe my sub will explode with no aparent reason at the very end of the war because I lack that file ???....

The patch installs a new version of those files, so they are needed.
