Torpedo tactics

I remember reading that some caps boasting they could sink a large ship with one torp. I'd like to know how they did it - since it takes me at least 2 torps (with a finishing off with the deck gun) or 3 torps by themselves for a large ship like a C2 or T3. Where should tropedo depth be set? I've read from about a foot below the keel (magnetic pistol), or the waterline.

btw, I just sunk my first ship in GW. It was large (11719 tons), don't know what though since the manual didn't identify it (still like the new manual better). The realism in GW makes the difference: realistic sinking time, better sound effects, extra maps, etc. Though my hydrophone guy seems to have super-hearing (as opposed to the deaf dude in the vanilla version), because he could hear ships before I could! I have ambient sound up.

Mine are set normally about for 5m useing GE7E torps from 1943 onwards all ships below were sunk with 1 torp each.

I find if you stick a magnetic fuse about 1 m blow the keel near their power plant usually gets a sinking in one.

The beauty of this game is that that might not be enough. I had a crappy time taking up 7 torps to sink a Lrg Cargo and a Sm Merch last night in crappy weather and almost got rammed by the LC for my trouble. Took me over an hour to set up cos I could only hear them as visibility was real bad (about 600m), then had to wait for a reload to finish the beggars off.

Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice!

It took me 4 torpedoes to sink a small tanker, then another time it took 1 torpedo to sink a C2. 7 torpedos to sink the Nelson Battleship in Loch ew port then i turned around and snuck out of there only to hit the nets on the way out slightly damaging my boat i went to 10feet just to get over them with the conning tower showing out of water the escorts fired at me but missed, they never followed me past the nets.

But yeah its good to visit ports now and then and to find some capital ships lying in anchor. Easy prey

Just watch out for the nets & mines

For the tankers ( T3,T2 and the small tanker ) I usually set a 3\4m depth impact and go close to amidships
That normally gets them in one hit
The C2 and 3 I rarely sink with just 1 fish - most times takes 2 sometimes 3

I prefer shallow impact settings but sometimes you just have to go magnetic and then try to aim close to stern about half a mtr below
If they dont sink they generally stop as props blown off - then you can finish of with deck gun

The general tactic for taking ships out easily is trying to hit the fuel-room or ammo bunker. If you're lucky, you can rip ships in half with the dozens .
The first time I went after that Nelso in LE i had such a bad time I'm never gonna forget it
I fired 5 torps in it's port side ,and she started to sink. But she then hit the bottom, almost capsized.I turned around ,fired my rear torpedo (VIIB) and it hit the command room(the ship so turned to one side that the rear torpedo hit the command-room of the nelson almost at it's middle) so that didn't do anything.I made the choice to reload torps,at the risk of being detected but it was rather stormy so I managed to re-load and turn in position for another attack.I fired 2 more torpedoes, they all hit the hull of the ship-nothing happened...I was so damn angry I went flank twards it but I got detected by some dd's patroling around the port ,and I made the decision to go away. After I turned around again to leave,i fired my last back torpedo ,which had been loaded again, just for the "fun of hit".I don't know what that torpedo did,but the Nelson blew up so nicely I wished I had pop-corn.Scratch 36k tons
